successor Chevrolet Cruze J300

The Chevrolet Nubira (internal type designation J200) is a passenger car model from the Korean car manufacturer GM Daewoo . In the model range from Chevrolet Europe , the Nubira, as a representative of the lower middle class, filled the gap between the Lacetti compact car, based on the same floor pan, and the Daewoo Evanda / Chevrolet Epica middle class sedans .

The car, initially only offered as a notchback sedan, replaced the Daewoo Nubira ; The corresponding station wagon followed in 2004 .

Development and model history

The Nubira officially celebrated its world premiere at the Seoul Motor Show 2002. In Korea, the new model was immediately on sale as Daewoo Lacetti . From the beginning of 2004, the vehicle designed by Pininfarina was also available in Germany. The station wagon variant was presented formally at the 2004 Geneva Motor Show and was available from dealers four months later. Like the Lacetti, the Nubira had some European components and was also coordinated in England with regard to the chassis and driving behavior. When Daewoo Nubira came onto the market in the third generation, it was renamed at the end of 2004 and given a modified radiator grille and the adapted brand logo, since General Motors marketed all European Daewoo vehicles under the name Chevrolet from this point on . In China, the vehicle was marketed as the Buick Excelle until 2016 and was one of the most successful models on the market.

Various changes have been made since the introduction in September 2004:

The door handles were replaced by "bow handles" with the introduction of the Nubira Kombi. The gasoline engines met the requirements of the Euro 4 standard (initially Euro 3 standard). In the interior of the limousine, the wood applications have been replaced by aluminum. The Nubira station wagon and the Lacetti got an identical dashboard. Only the dashboard of the notchback sedan differed slightly.

In September 2006 the Nubira sedan was taken off the market in Germany due to insufficient demand.

The Nubira Kombi was withdrawn from the range at the end of 2010.

Names

The name Nubira is Korean and means “to drive around the world” in translation; which should indicate the long-term quality of the car. There are other synonyms on the world markets, but they all go back to the Chevrolet Nubira:

Markets Surname
Europe Chevrolet Nubira / Chevrolet Lacetti
China Buick Excelle
Canada / Africa / Southeast Asia / India Chevrolet Optra
South Korea Daewoo Lacetti
Australia / New Zealand Holden Viva / Chevrolet Lacetti
United States Chevrolet Optra / Suzuki Forenza

since 2015: Ravon Gentra

Vehicle variants for gaseous fuels

Chevrolet offered the Nubira ex works with an LPG system. The gas tank with a capacity of 53 liters (previously 60 liters) LPG (Liquefied Propane Gas) was installed in the recess provided instead of the spare wheel. This extended the range of the vehicle by up to 450 km.

Motorsport

Chevrolet Nubira in the World Touring Car Championship

From 2005 Chevrolet was involved with the Nubira in the World Touring Car Championship , in which the sedan was used under the name Lacetti . The vehicle is built according to the Super 2000 regulations . The first race win was achieved at Brands Hatch in 2006 . The Lacetti’s last works outing ended in 2008 with a win in Macau . The Nubira achieved 14 wins, 38 podiums, 8 pole positions and 9 fastest race laps. From 2009 the Chevrolet Cruze J300 was used as a successor. The Nubira continues to be used by private teams in several touring car racing series in which the Super 2000 rules are used. Bamboo Engineering entered the 2010 World Touring Car Championship with two Nubira and also switched to the successor model Chevrolet Cruze during the 2011 season.
