Model history
On April 12, 2012, Maruti Suzuki began selling the Ertiga compact MPV in India and on April 22, 2012 in Indonesia . Maruti Suzuki advertised it as the first Life Utility Vehicle (LUV) . The Ertiga is built in Gurgaon in India by Maruti-Suzuki and in Bekasi by Suzuki Motor Indomobil. The model was also available in China in the meantime and was manufactured there in Chongqing by Chongqing Changan Suzuki Automobile .
The Ertiga is powered either by the Suzuki K-series 1.4-liter gasoline engine or a 1.3-liter diesel engine with common rail injection supplied by Fiat . The basis of the model is the Suzuki Swift . The Ertiga is considered a cross between a hatchback vehicle and an MPV. The Ertiga quickly sold better in India than the long best-selling Toyota Innova van .
The Ertiga is the production version of the R-III (R3) concept by Maruti Suzuki, which was presented at the 2010 Indian Motor Show. The name Ertiga is an adaptation of the pronunciation R-Tiga, where Tiga means three in the Indonesian language and the R stands for rows. At the 16th Indonesia International Motor Show , three new variants of the Ertiga were presented and later introduced into the series: Sport, Luxury and Crossover .
From January 2013, Maruti-Suzuki installed a double air conditioning system .
