The car models Autozam AZ-1 and Suzuki Cara (PG6SS) are identical two-seater sports coupes with a notchback, which were designed as kei cars . The manufacturer and developer of both vehicle models was Suzuki . The AZ-1 was established under the Mazda automobile brand Autozam . The designer was Tatsumi Fukunaga, who presented the coupe as the Suzuki RS / 3 . The vehicle was also produced as Mazda AZ-550 and Mazdaspeed A-spec (PG6SA).

Depending on the market, there was a model with right-hand or left-hand steering . The Suzuki Cara, on the other hand, was only available on the Japanese market. An F6A gasoline engine with a displacement of 657 cm³ and an output of 47  kW was used as the engine. Spartan Microsports launched the sports version of the AZ-1 in the WRC style, which was similar to that of the Ford Escort Mk.IV. A less aggressive version, however, was the Mazdaspeed A-spec . Suzuki let this act as rear-wheel drive. As well as the motorization, the technical structure also comes from the Autozam Carol . Sales started in September 1992 as the Autozam AZ-1 and Mazda AZ-550. The Suzuki version, on the other hand, was only introduced to the Japanese market on January 27, 1993. Alternatively, the Cara got engines from the Suzuki Cultus .

By the end of production of the two model versions in December 1995, a total of 4392 units of the Autozam AZ-1 / Mazda AZ-550 and 531 units of the Suzuki Cara were produced.
