The Ẽfini MS-8 was an upper middle class vehicle built by Mazda from 1992 to 1995 and only offered in Japan. It was the only model from Mazda's own brand Ẽfini, which outside of Japan was not also sold under the brand name Mazda. The Ẽfini MS-8 did not have a direct successor because the Mazda multi-brand strategy with its own brands Ẽfini, Eunos and Autozam was abandoned.
history
The Ẽfini MS-8 is based on the Mazda 626 / Mazda Cronos of the GE series, but has a completely independent design inside and out. It was designed as a hardtop sedan with frameless doors, a type of vehicle for a more sporty customer base. B. was also served by Toyota with the Toyota Carina ED or by Mitsubishi with the Mitsubishi Diamante .
Special stylistic features are, on the one hand, the very narrow B-pillars above the doors, virtually invisible from the outside, which required the retractor mechanism for the front seat belts to be attached to the rear doors. On the other hand, the Ẽfini MS-8 had a continuous wagon floor, also at the front. a. was achieved by moving the automatic selector lever to the steering column . The padded center armrest had a large storage compartment that replaced the storage compartments in the missing center console; When folded up, it gave way to the passenger seat.
On the operating side, the standard automatic air conditioning should be mentioned, which had a special feature of electrically pivoting center nozzles.
Optional extras included a driver airbag, a panoramic glass tilt and sunroof , a Bose sound system and electronically controlled all-wheel steering.
Engines
The Ẽfini MS-8 had front-wheel drive and an electronically controlled automatic transmission with four speed levels. On the engine side, there was a choice of two short-stroke V6 units, a 2.0-liter engine (Mazda internal designation KF-ZE) with around 120 kW and a 2.5-liter engine with 149 kW (KL-ZE).
