Since 2004 the Mazda Titan has been based on the Isuzu Elf using badge engineering .

Production period: 1971-1980
Engines: Gasoline engines : 2.0 liters
3.7 liters
Diesel engines : 2.5 liters
2.7 liters
3.0 liters

The first Titan was introduced in August 1971 as the successor to the Mazda E 2000 two-tonne payload truck . The 2.5 L "XA" diesel engine known from the E2000 was used as the drive without any changes with 77 hp. A 2-liter gasoline engine complemented the range, as was the XC 3.7-liter gasoline engine with 100 hp (74 kW), the base engine of the Titan offered as a Ford Trader with a payload of 3 tons in Oceania. The Kia Titan was launched in 1971 .

For even higher payloads there was the Mazda XB 2.7 L diesel engine from 1972 with only 4 hp more power, 81 hp (60 kW), but a better torque curve than the 2.5 L diesel engine. In 1977 there was a facelift with a new grille and bumper. In addition, the indicators have become larger and more angular, and the round M logo has been replaced by the new MAZDA trademark . The 2.7 L diesel engine grew to 3.0 L with the same output.

Second generation 1980–1989

Production period: 1980-1989
Engines: Otto engine : 3.7 liters
Diesel engine : 4.0 liters

The second generation of the model series started in August 1980. The only diesel engine available for the Titan was the 4052 cm³ six-cylinder z. B. in different performance levels. There was also a 3.7-liter gasoline engine with four or six cylinders. In 1982 the second generation Mazda Parkway was introduced, which was now based on the Titan. In 1984 there were minor revisions. A visible facelift then took place in 1987 with four square instead of round headlights. In addition to other small revisions, a DIN radio slot has been integrated into the dashboard.

Third generation 1989–2000

Production period: 1989-2000
Engines: Otto engine : 3.7 liters
Diesel engine : 4.0 liters

The third generation Titan started in the summer of 1989. It had a completely new body, although the design was similar to its predecessor. The most obvious difference was the lowering of the side windows on the front edge to give the driver a better view. The titanium lettering on the front was now aligned with the Mazda logo, with some versions a titanium lettering was also attached to the fender. In the export markets, the Titan was now offered as a Mazda T-series and as a Ford Trader in Oceania. In addition to the Mazda six-cylinder diesel engine, there was also an optional similar engine from Perkins Engines and now also a four-cylinder diesel engine, each with a displacement of 4.0 liters. The revised four- or six-cylinder gasoline engine was also still available.

In 1995 there was another facelift with more significant mechanical changes. In order to comply with the 1994 tightened emission standards, the model series has now been equipped with more powerful and more modern 4HF1 and 4HG1 diesel engines from Isuzu . In terms of design, the Mazda logo has become considerably larger and the titanium lettering is now red. An AM / FM radio with 2 speakers and a clock was now standard in all markets.

In October 1997 there was another modernization. The windshield has been enlarged and rounded off with black plastic. The four square lights were replaced by irregularly shaped individual units that reached around the corners. The Titan logo has been changed from red to white. At the same time, production of the Ford Trader was discontinued, which from 1998 was based on the Ford Cargo built by Ford Otosan in Turkey .

From May 1999 there were revised engines in order to meet the stricter emissions standards and the braking system was improved.

Fourth generation 2000-2004

Production period: 2000-2004
Engines: Diesel engine : 4.0 liters.
Natural gas : 4.0 liters

The fourth generation Titan was offered for export as of May 2000 again as the T series. The only thing available was the 4.0 L diesel engine purchased from Isuzu in various power levels. From November 2000, there was a natural gas variant based on this . Production ended as early as June 2004 and from now on the fifth generation Isuzu Elf was available as Mazda Titan using badge engineering .

Titan Dash 2000-2010

In October 2000 the Titan Dash started in the Japanese Bushido class (1 ton payload truck), as the successor to the Mazda Bongo Browny Truck with the same engine as the Titan, and from 2001 also in CNG version.

From December 2004 there was a revised diesel engine due to new exhaust gas regulations. The 2.0 L diesel engine of the Mazda Bongo with a diesel particulate filter was now also available . In addition to the previously standard anti-lock braking system , a driver airbag expanded the standard equipment, while a front passenger airbag was now optionally available. In November 2005 there were minor revisions to the Titan Dash, with an automatic load-dependent setting of the lighting being the most prominent.

As of August 2007, only the 2.0 L diesel engine with a modified compression and a small increase in displacement was available in order to meet the future emissions regulations for vans / trucks in the Bushido class (1 tonne payload) and to ensure fuel efficiency to improve.

In August 2010, production of the Titan Dash was discontinued without a successor.

Fifth generation 2004-2007

Isuzu Elf V (identical to Titan V)

Production period: 2004-2007
Engines: Diesel engine : 4.8 liters

As of June 2004, the Titan Dash was the only truck in the Bushido class that was built by Mazda, because from now on only one model based on the Isuzu Elf was produced by Isuzu. So there was now a 4.8 liter diesel engine, but no longer in a CNG version. What was new was an automatic transmission that could also be shifted manually and was optionally available with a clutch pedal. Otherwise, the technical properties such as ABS and ASR, which were now installed as standard, were already available as standard or optional with the predecessor.

Sixth generation since 2007

VI

Production period: 2007–
Engines: Gasoline engines : 2.0 liters
3.7 liters
Diesel engines : 2.5 liters
2.7 liters
3.0 liters

A few months after the sixth generation Isuzu Elf went on sale, the sixth generation Titan followed in January 2007. The cabin became larger in all versions and grew by 75 mm in width.

From May 2009 there were some improvements with a reduction in fuel consumption, to the standard for heavy vehicles from 2015, and the introduction of a diesel particulate filter.

The efficiency of the particle combustion has been improved since June 2011, although a urea-SCR system is not used. Since then, the front underrun protection has been reinforced for better safety precautions.

The last revision to date followed in May 2012 with further improved exhaust emissions and reinforced underride protection in the rear area.
