The Mazda R130 Luce ( Italian for light ), in English also Luce Rotary Coupe , was a hardtop coupé with a rotary engine produced by the Japanese car manufacturer Mazda from 1969 to 1972 .
history
In 1967 the R130, still dubbed the "RX-87" concept vehicle , was presented to the public at the Tokyo Motor Show. The car was designed for Bertone by Giorgio Giugiaro and, although technically different, subordinated to the Mazda Luce series . Production began in October 1969 and ended in September 1972. Only 976 copies were made during this period. Its design and technical equipment as well as the high sales price, which was 1.45 to 1.75 million yen , earned it the nickname "Lord of the Road". Although intended for export, the R130 was only sold in the Japanese market. The R130 is now in great demand among automobile collectors.
technology
The R130 was the first Mazda with front-wheel drive and was powered by a twin-disc rotary engine with a total chamber volume of 1300 cm³, which developed 126 hp (93 kW). The maximum speed was 190 km / h. The two-door car offered space for five people.
