The Mazda Xedos 9 is a four - door front - wheel drive sedan of the upper middle class of the Japanese manufacturer Mazda , which was produced from the middle of 1993 to the end of 2002. It was located above the Mazda Xedos 6 .

history

Mazda began selling the Xedos 9 in Germany in November 1993. In Japan it was marketed as the Eunos 800 , in America from 1995 as the Mazda Millenia .

In October 1995 the 2.5i V6 engine was revised, now it had an output of 120 kW with the same displacement . From autumn 2000 it was offered as the only motorization and exclusively with automatic transmission.

In the course of the construction period, the car received various revisions: In early 1997, it got the new trademark - the wing. In mid-1999 there was a slight facelift with white front indicators, a new steering wheel and modified rear lights.

In October 2000 the Xedos 9 was revised again. This time the changes were more noticeable, especially in the front area. This was characterized by new headlights, a larger radiator grille and a modified front apron and bumper. In addition, other colors for outside and inside and a subtly modified interior with a newly available navigation system were introduced. The Xedos 9 was now equipped with electrically adjustable front seats, a leather steering wheel and gear knob, ABS , four airbags and TCS as standard . Furthermore, an electric sliding glass roof and the modular Mazda audio system (hi-fi system) have now also been included in the standard equipment.

In December 2002 production was stopped due to insufficient sales.

technology

Engines

The following motors served as the drive source for the Xedos 9:

  • 2.0i six-cylinder gasoline engine with 1995 cc displacement in V-design with 105 kW (143 PS), 5-speed manual transmission or 4- speed automatic transmission (07 / 1993-09 / 2000)
  • 2.3i Miller Cycle six-cylinder gasoline engine with 2255 cm³ displacement in V-design with 155 kW (210 PS), 4-stage automatic transmission (02 / 1995-09 / 2000)
  • 2.5i six-cylinder gasoline engine with 2497 cm³ displacement in V-design with 123 kW (167 PS), 5-speed manual transmission or 4-speed automatic transmission (07 / 1993-12 / 2002; from 10/1995: 120 kW / 163 hp)

All engines have a regulated 3-way catalytic converter and two overhead camshafts per cylinder bank. Four valves per cylinder, camshaft drive via toothed belt and an engine installed transversely at the front are further technical details. The engine lubrication takes place through the so-called pressure circulation lubrication with sickle pump and change oil filter in the main flow , the engine cooling through overpressure liquid cooling .

Power transmission

The Xedos 9 is powered by front-wheel drive . Either a fully synchronized five-speed manual gearbox or an electronically controlled 4- speed automatic with torque converter lock-up for the larger V6 engines is available as a transmission . The single-disc dry clutch is operated hydraulically. (with automatic: hydrodynamic torque converter )

body

A self-supporting and torsion-resistant all-steel body with energy-absorbing front and rear sections protects the occupants in all five seats. The trunk volume is 407 liters.

landing gear

The wheels are individually suspended on multi-link axles at the front and rear . The steering is designed as a rack and pinion steering with speed-dependent servo assistance and an airbag is integrated into the steering wheel . The turning circle is 12.2 meters.

Brakes

The braking system consists of a hydraulic four-wheel brake in a diagonally divided two-circuit system. There are internally ventilated disc brakes at the front and only disc brakes at the rear. There was an anti-lock braking system as standard, the parking brake acts mechanically on the rear wheels.
