from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Mazda 717C was a racing car prototype built for Mazdaspeed for use in the Le Mans 24-hour race in Group C Junior. It was Mazda’s first racing car since the end of GT racing activities with the RX-7 in 1982. The car had a 2-disc rotary engine , type Mazda 13B, which corresponded to the machine in the production model RX-7. The chassis and body were built by Mooncraft with the help of Mazda.

Two 717Cs were used in the 1983 Le Mans 24-hour race. They were the only two cars in Group C Junior to finish the race this year. In the overall ranking they finished 12th and 18th.

The following year the 727C replaced the 717C.
