The Mazda Hakaze is a drivable concept vehicle that Mazda introduced in spring 2007. A virtual press presentation also took place in Cyperspace; and the Hakaze could be virtually test-driven on Mazda Island “Nagare Island”.
Its most important design elements come from the new "design language" Nagare , which Mazda's chief developer, Laurens van den Acker , created. The name can be translated as "river". Its elements can also be seen in Mazda's earlier concept vehicles Nagare , Ryuga and Kabura . The ideas for the study also came from kitesurfing . The development of the design study took place at Vercarmodel Saro in Orbassano, Italy.
The car has the appearance of a coupé , the functionality of a soft roader and the driving characteristics of a roadster . It does without door handles and has cameras instead of rearview mirrors , scissor doors and a partially removable roof. In the stern, for example, a kite board can be stowed with a rail system.
There are four individual seats in the interior that give the vehicle a 2 + 2 design. The car has a center console facing the driver. All control elements contained in it can be adjusted to the special needs of each driver and these settings can be saved on a Bluetooth card. If the driver then gets into the car, their personal settings are automatically restored. It has a fixed steering wheel hub. The footwell is lined with soft natural leather, the seats are covered with a special leather.
The car has a 2.3-liter gasoline engine with turbocharger and 267 hp (196 kW), all-wheel drive and an electronically controlled automatic transmission with six gears.
