Mazda 727C

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Mazda 727C was a racing car prototype built for Mazdaspeed for use in the Le Mans 24 Hours in Group C2. It replaced the 717C in 1984 and was a further development of the Mooncraft construction, which used the same 2-disc rotary engine , type Mazda 13B.

Two 727Cs were used in the 1984 24-hour race at Le Mans and took 4th and 6th place in Group C2. However, two Lola T616s with the same Mazda engine beat the 727C and took 1st and 3rd place.

The 727C was still in a few races of the sports car world championship in 1984, but in the end it only finished 10th in the C2 constructors' world championship after two private teams. In 1985 the 727C was replaced by the 737C .
