history
After the presentation at the IAA 2011 in Frankfurt am Main, the first generation of the CX-5 was officially introduced in Germany on April 28, 2012.
The body consists of 61% high-strength steel. Their frontal area is 2.60 m², the c w value 0.33. (see example VW Golf VII 2.19 m²)
At the market launch, a petrol engine with 165 hp (160 hp with all-wheel drive) and two diesel engines with 150 and 175 hp in Mazda's SkyActiv technology were available for the three equipment lines (Prime-Line, Center-Line and Sports-Line). SkyActiv -Technik means u. a. 14: 1 compression, aluminum alloy engine block , multi-hole injectors and less friction. By February 2011, Mazda said it had applied for more than 130 patents. The petrol engine has a maximum torque of 210/208 Nm (front / all-wheel drive) at 4000 rpm, the diesel with 150 hp it is 380 Nm in the range from 1800 to 2600 rpm, while the 175 hp machine has 420 Nm at 2000 rpm.
From the middle of 2013, devices with a navigation system were installed in which the use of memory sticks and media players via the USB interface is only possible to a very limited extent. A solution to the problem was found in the course of a hardware exchange by the authorized workshop. In addition, there were problems with some diesel engines from production years 2013 and 2014 due to insufficiently hardened camshafts and the following damage to the turbochargers. This problem was also solved at the factory.
Facelift
From January 2014 there was a facelift.
The standard equipment was changed and the color Sky-Blue was removed from the range.

Facelift
From February 2015, the CX-5 got a facelift with a new radiator grille, an upgraded interior, an electric parking brake, full LED headlights, depending on the equipment line, new driver assistants and a new infotainment system (MZD-Connect).
Furthermore, the 2.5-liter petrol engine with 141 kW (192 hp) was introduced from the Mazda6, which was renewed at the end of 2012 . The Exclusive-Line equipment line is added to the existing Prime-Line, Center-Line and Sports-Line lines.

In November 2016, Mazda presented the second generation of the CX-5 at the LA Auto Show. The CX-5 has a 25% share of all Mazda sales worldwide, in Germany it was the best-selling Mazda model in 2017 with over 18,900 vehicles.
The new generation was introduced in Japan in February 2017. The European version was presented at the 87th Geneva Motor Show in March 2017 and was officially presented to dealers in Germany on May 20, 2017 at prices from 24,990 euros.
The design of the new body corresponds to the predecessor of the Kodo line (Kodo means something like "soul of movement"); their air resistance could be reduced by 6%, which also contributes to the improved noise comfort (at 100 km / h by exactly 1.3 dB). The length of the vehicle and the headroom remained the same with the overall height reduced by 2 cm. The instrument panel now has a seven-inch display, and a heads-up display is also optionally available from the Exclusive Line. It is included as standard in the Sports-Line equipment variant and, in conjunction with the technology package, is even available with direct projection into the windscreen.
At the market launch , the CX-5 was initially available with the SkyActiv motors familiar from the previous model . SkyActiv -Technik means u. a. 14: 1 compression, aluminum alloy engine block, multi-hole injectors and less friction. By February 2011, Mazda said it had applied for more than 130 patents. The 2.5-liter gasoline engine with cylinder deactivation has been available since September 2017. Mazda calls fuel savings of up to 20 percent at constant speeds of around 40 km / h, and five percent at 80 km / h. Mazda also launched a diesel engine for the first time in the United States.
The SUV is criticized in Germany for the lack of an SCR catalytic converter system in the diesel versions. Although the vehicle was announced in the United States with the filler neck for AdBlue , Mazda is initially installing diesel engines in Europe without AdBlue injection.
The 4.90 meter long SUV CX-8 presented in autumn 2017 is based on the CX-5, but has seven seats and is not available in Europe.
In addition to the standard LED light, the Sportsline version also offers matrix LED light .
