The Mazda 800 was a lower middle class passenger car that Mazda manufactured in Japan from 1964 to 1967. It was not offered in Europe. In 1965 he was given a Mazda 1000 with a larger engine. Both vehicles were the first Mazda Familia in the home market .

The small car was available as a 2- or 4-door sedan and as a 3-door station wagon. The forward along built-in four-cylinder OHV -Reihenmotor with 782 cc developed 42 hp (31 kW) at 6000 min -1 . The engine power was transmitted to the rear wheels via a manual four-speed gearbox and a cardan shaft. The top speed was 115 km / h. Double headlights were embedded in the chrome-plated radiator grille the width of the car.

In 1965 Mazda provided the 800 with a Coupé 1000 which, in addition to a slightly different radiator grille (black with a horizontal chrome bar), had a four-cylinder OHC in-line engine with 985 cm³, which had an output of 68 bhp (50 kW) at 6,500 rpm . 1 levy. The elegant car reached 145 km / h.

In 1967 there was also the 2-door sedan with the 1.0 l R4 engine. However, this was limited to an overhead valve design that only 58 hp (43 kW) at 6000 min -1 made. Instead of the double headlights, the car had single headlights. It reached a top speed of 135 km / h.

In the same year the successor was presented with the same engine but a larger body than the 1000 Deluxe .
