The Mazda Roadpacer is an upper middle class sedan that the Japanese automobile manufacturer Mazda produced from 1975 to 1979 and sold exclusively in Japan.

The Roadpacer was based on the Premier model from the Australian GM brand Holden .

Motorless, otherwise complete Premier models were shipped to Japan, where Mazda installed the in-house 13B rotary engine with a 1.3 liter chamber volume.

Although this made 135 hp and had a maximum torque of 138 Nm, it was rather difficult in the 1575 kilogram Roadpacer. After all, the engine was more powerful than the reciprocating piston engines used by Holden ; Nevertheless, the Roadpacer only achieved a top speed of 166 km / h, the acceleration was sluggish, the consumption horrendous: test reports at the time gave values ​​of around 26 liters per 100 kilometers. Once it got going, the Roadpacer spoiled you with its smooth running and relaxed gliding.

The Holden Premier was already extensively equipped, but the Mazda version had a lot more on board as standard, such as central locking that automatically locked all doors at a speed of 10 km / h, a warning gong if you (the in Japan allowed) exceeded 90 km / h, a dictation machine and a stereo radio that could also be operated from the rear.

The price in 1975 was 3.8 million yen (then about 40,000 DM); a Mazda 929 cost about half that.

The equipment and price already indicate that the Roadpacer was primarily intended for high government officials and business bosses and thus competed with the top models of the other major Japanese car companies, the Toyota Century , Nissan President and Mitsubishi Debonair .

Due to the model launch in the aftermath of the 1973/74 oil crisis, the Roadpacer sold poorly; By the end of production in 1979, Mazda had only sold 799 units (1975: 399; 1976: 240; 1977: 119; 1978: 36 and 1979: 5 units).

Several vehicles are said to have come to Australia and Greece. One copy is said to have been exhibited at least temporarily in the Mazda Museum in Augsburg .
