The Mazda Museum Augsburg (spelling: Mazda Classic - Automobil Museum Frey ) is a privately operated automobile museum in Augsburg , which exclusively exhibits vehicles of the Japanese brand Mazda and includes the world's largest collection of Mazda vehicles.

history

The Augsburg Museum includes vehicles from the private collection of a Mazda dealer from the Augsburg suburb of Gersthofen , who, together with his two sons, has acquired various Mazda vehicles for about thirty years and thus collected around 120 to 140 models over the years. About fifty of these vehicles were restored so that they could be exhibited in public. When looking for rare Mazda models such as a "Pathfinder XV 1", which was produced as a military vehicle in Myanmar and almost exclusively used there, the family contacted the German ambassador there in order to be able to find an original engine. In order to put the idea of their own museum into practice, the family bought a former tram depot from the city in 2011 and set up their first exhibition there. The opening ceremony took place on May 11, 2017 with 150 invited guests and around 70 journalists; the museum was opened to the public two days later.
