The Suzuki Alto Lapin ( French rabbit ) is a kei car or small car from the Japanese automobile manufacturer Suzuki based on the Alto . The model was also offered as a Mazda Spiano until 2008 . Around 90 percent of buyers are female.

The first generation of the Alto Lapin was sold in Japan from January 2002. The retro- styled car shares the technical basis with the Suzuki Wagon R + and the Suzuki Alto . Overall, there were three models, designated as G , X and T . G and X have a 660 cc three-cylinder naturally aspirated engine with 40 kW (54 hp). The T version also has a turbocharger that increases the output to 47 kW (64 PS). All three models were optionally available with all-wheel drive .

The second generation of the vehicle was offered in Japan from November 2008. Sales of the Mazda Spiano ceased with the introduction of the new Alto Lapin.

The third generation of the Alto Lapin was introduced in Japan in early June 2015. The small car is powered by a 658 cm³ three-cylinder naturally aspirated engine with 38 kW (52 hp), a continuously variable transmission and front-wheel drive . The Alto Lapin is also optionally available with all-wheel drive. A total of four equipment lines are offered.
