The Maruti 800 is a small car from the Indian manufacturer Maruti . It is largely identical to versions of the Suzuki Alto from the 1980s. As a Maruti, however, only the variant with a five-door body was sold. The three-cylinder gasoline engine with 796 cm³ displacement and an output of 26 kW (35 PS) also came from Suzuki and was also used in the export version of the Alto, where it produced 29 kW (40 PS).

Facelift

After the model change of the Suzuki Alto in 1986, production at Maruti was also switched to the new body. As with Suzuki, the engine was taken over from the previous model.

This version continued to be built in India after the next model change from the original Japanese model in 1988 and became the best-selling car in India with over two million units .

In addition to the neighboring countries of South Asia , the Maruti 800 was also exported to Eastern Europe from 1988 and sold there as the Suzuki Maruti . Later exports to France also took place, today the Maruti 800 is available in parts of Asia, Africa and Latin America.

In 1997 a facelift took place, with the front and rear being redesigned.

In 2014 the Maruti 800 was replaced by the Maruti Cervo .
