Model history

Suzuki Every + 1999-2001

In the mid-1990s, Suzuki began producing microvans . The Suzuki Wagon R + , also marketed in Europe , was the model for the minivan, which was first marketed as Every +. This was based on the Suzuki Every, the minivan model of the Suzuki Carry, which had been built since 1982, and should offer more seats and variation options than this. The word Every stands for everyone and is intended to represent the size and possible variations. The Every Landy was developed on the basis of the Every with a maximum of 7 seats. The variant, which will be used more in private hands in the future, also had to comply with higher safety regulations, which is why the chassis of the Every was extended and reinforced at the front for better collision behavior. The drive, G13B 1.3 L SOHC petrol engine with 85 HP, differed from the Every, which had to stay below 660 cm³ due to the Kei-Car regulations. In addition to front-wheel drive, all-wheel drive was also available as an option. Power was transmitted by means of a 5-speed manual transmission or an optional 4-speed automatic transmission . Sales started on June 17, 1999 in the home market.

  • From December 1999, the Limited special model was available with TV, sound system, navigation system , power windows also at the rear (front standard), chrome-plated door handles all around and front grille as well as silver-painted handbrake levers, inside door handles, automatic transmission selector buttons and an instrument panel. Due to the great demand, it subsequently remained in the range as additional equipment.
  • In May 2000, the series appeared with revised and improved taillights, enlarged headrests and improved height adjustment of the seat belts as well as a different arrangement of the 3rd row of seats and higher quality seat cushions.
  • From November 2000 the special model Limited II was offered which now also had a standard air conditioning system and an additional optional one for the passenger compartment.
  • In May 2001 the series received a minor facelift. At the same time the name was changed to Every Landy.

A redesigned dashboard was installed inside. In front of the second row of seats, folding tables could be pulled out and an electric step was available for easier access. Externally there was a new front bumper and a new grille. In addition, the engine has been revised to achieve lower emissions.

  • The model was produced without any fundamental changes until August 2005 and discontinued at the same time as the model change of the Suzuki Every. Only with the Suzuki Landy / Randy since 2007, Suzuki has again offered a van with 7 seats.

Maruti Versa / Chang'an Star 2001–2009

The facelift model from 2001 onwards was built by the Indian subsidiary Maruti as Maruti Versa . The Maruti Omni was already a badge engineering model of the Suzuki Every and has now been replaced by the Maruti Versa. Over seventy percent of the vehicle parts were manufactured in India . Unlike the Every Landy, there were two versions as DX or STD. The STD only had 5 seats, the DX 8 instead of 7 seats in the Every Landy. All of them had a standard front air conditioning system, as DX2 an additional one in the rear. The Versa had the same 16-valve 1.3 liter 4-cylinder petrol engine with only 82 HP (61 kW) and was installed under the passenger seat. After China this model was as Chang'an exported Star. After the orders fell sharply in 2009, production was stopped. The 8-seater version was replaced by the Maruti ECCO, which in turn is based on the Suzuki Every.
