Chongqing Changan Automobile is an automobile manufacturer from Chongqing in the People's Republic of China .
Company history
The company has a tradition since November 1862. That month, Li Hongzhang founded a technical company.
1958 possibly arose as a prototype of a passenger car , called Progress . One source states Chongqing Xinjian Machinery Works , the other Chongqing Machinery Manufactury .
Around 1958 was SUV Changjiang no. 46 produced. A source names the year 1958 and the company name Chang'an Machinery Works and states that the vehicle corresponded to the Jeep CJ5 . Other sources mention the period from 1958 to 1962. According to the company, production began in 1959.
In the 1980s, the series production of small commercial vehicles began . One source states 1982, several in 1983 and the company in 1984. The licensor was Suzuki . The brand name is Changan , also in the spelling Chang'an with an apostrophe . Cars followed in 1990.
Other traditional names are Chang'an Auto Corporation for 1990, Changan Automobile Group from 1995, Changan Automobile (Group) Liability from 1998 and Chana Automobile (Group) Liability for 2008.
The company states in its annual reports that it was founded on October 31, 1996 by the China Changan Automobile Group.
In 1997, Anhui Huaihai Machinery Works was taken over.
Changan is part of the China South Industries Group and has several joint ventures or subsidiaries:
- Chongqing Changan Suzuki Automobile with Suzuki. Founded in 1993 and completely taken over in 2018.
- Changan Ford Automobile 2001 with Ford . In 2004 Mazda joined, whereupon the company name changed to Changan Ford Mazda Automobile . This company was dissolved in late 2012 and replaced by two others.
- Changan PSA Automobiles from 2011 with Groupe PSA , trading as Shenzhen Baoneng Motor since 2020
- Changan Ford Automobile with Ford since the end of 2012.
- Changan Mazda Automobile with Mazda since the end of 2012.
- Chongqing Changan Automobile Kuayue for Commercial Vehicles brand Caky

On October 28, 2019, the Kaicene brand or sub-brand (also called Kaicheng) was introduced for the Kaicene F70 pick-up .
