The Ford Transit (also known as the T series ) as the successor to the Ford E series appeared in March 2013 as a chassis with 3 wheelbases (3505, 3962 and 4521 millimeters) and a total weight between 4082 and 4699 kilograms. The US-Transit is offered as the T-250, T-350, T-450 and T-550, these trademarks were registered by Ford and thus follows the same naming as the Ford E-series.

The T-Series, like most contemporary Ford models, is a world car that was jointly developed with the European Ford Transit . The Ford Transit was not officially sold in North America , although engineers at Ford's main center in Dearborn were always involved in the development. While the production of the T-series chassis started in Kansas City (Missouri) in March 2013, the production and sale of the panel van and minibus models gradually began from summer 2013. At the same time, the E-series will continue to be built until the end of 2013.

The panel vans and minibuses of the T series have a wheelbase of 3300 mm in the standard version and 3750 mm in the long version. But there are also versions with a wheelbase of up to 4521 mm. The lengths vary between 5531 and 6704 mm; the width is uniformly 2474 mm. As with the predecessor E-series, there is also a large-capacity box van in the long version with an extended overhang in the T-series, which offers a load volume of over 17 m³. Three different roof heights between 2490 mm and 2786 mm are available and payloads from 2500 kg.

The transit models are largely identical in construction, but in some cases technically differ from one another. The chassis versions of the US transit will not exist in Europe. Here the flatbed models are based on the dimensions of the panel van / minibus models.

The T-series is powered either by the 3.5-liter V6 Ford EcoBoost or the 3.7-liter V6 Ti-VCT gasoline engine (with variable valve control and either natural gas or liquefied gas conversion). Even a 3.2-liter common rail -Ford Duratorq diesel Power Stroke with 147 kW (200 hp) is offered. The power is transmitted to the rear wheels with a six- speed automatic transmission.
