The depending on the dealer network of Ford of Britain offered Fordson Thames 7V or Fordson 7V in 1937 as a successor to the Ford Model BB first introduced. The available with a payload up to 5 tons, then very modern trucks in cab- construction method, allowing a greater maneuverability in urban environments. Two different wheelbases were available, and the chassis provided the basis for various bodies. So was z. B. the Fordson Thames 7V at the time of the Second World War the most popular fire engine . The model series was powered by the well-known V8 Ford Flathead side valve engine with an output of 85 hp. The rear wheels were driven by means of a three-speed (optionally four-speed) gearbox and cardan shaft. What stood out for the time was the one-piece windshield, which could be opened for ventilation, and a sliding roof over the passenger seat.

Early 7Vs built in 1937 and 1938 had a curved, rounded radiator grille, while from 1939 onwards it was flat and, like the headlights, was smaller. These measures were the result of the beginning war and the associated shortage of raw materials. Production of the civilian 7Vs was maintained throughout the war. An armored version was also produced for use by the army.

Immediately after the end of the war, numerous improvements were introduced, the most prominent being a new braking system and a tractor unit . A 4.7-liter Perkins Engines in-line six-cylinder diesel engine with 45 hp was optionally available from 1948. The model series was produced in Dagenham until mid-1949 and replaced by the Fordson Thames ET . Ebro built the model under license as the Ebro 7V.
