The Australian Ford Territory is a crossover SUV released on the BA Falcon's EA169 platform in April 2004. His code no. is E265. It was voted Wheels Car of the Year in 2004, with the car testers praising its car-like handling and practicality. Ford has proven to have invested AU $ 500 million over four years in its development. It is manufactured on the same assembly line as the Falcon. Many people expected the Territory to replace the Falcon station wagon, but both vehicles will continue to be produced because the Territory is more sought after by private buyers, while the Falcon station wagon is more likely to be ordered for vehicle fleets.

There is a basic model with rear-wheel drive and an all-wheel drive variant as a simple TX model or as better equipped TS or Ghia models. A DVD player is available in all models on request. The Territory has side airbags as standard on the TS and Ghia models and on request on the TX model as the first Australian-made car.

There are models with five seats (in two rows) or with seven seats (in three rows). The rows of seats are arranged so that the rear is highest. They can be folded up and then disappear completely into the vehicle floor.

The first model was called the SX and was manufactured from 2004 to 2005. Its engine was the Falcon's 4.0 liter R6 DOHC Ford Barra engine, which developed 182 kW (245 bhp).

All-wheel drive models can be equipped with an HDC system on request , which uses ABS to brake downhill travel. The system was adopted from the Land Rover .

The vehicles for Australia and New Zealand differ slightly: The New Zealand models have bumpers in the same color as the car and aluminum rims, including the basic model. The headlight arrangement is reminiscent of jewels in a black box. In New Zealand there is only the basic rear-wheel drive version, the other versions have all-wheel drive, while in Australia all versions are available with rear-wheel or all-wheel drive.

The appearance of the Territory is similar to that of the Ford Taurus X in the USA. Both vehicles have clear similarities in styling - a fact which, in the opinion of the corporate headquarters in Dearborn, is responsible for the sales success of the Territory. Simon Butterworth , the architect behind the 2003 revision of the Falcon, also designed the Territory, but also cooperated with J Mays in the USA, so that a global Ford “ DNA ” was created. Marcus Hotblack created the interior of the Territory, taking the quality of the Swiss Army Knife as an example. The car has details such as flexible cup holders and handbag holders for female drivers, as it was found that many buyers of SUVs are women.

From 2005 the Territory was offered in South Africa , from 2006 also in Thailand , whereby in Thailand only the all-wheel drive model with Ghia equipment is sold.

A revised SY model came in October 2005 and was equipped with a 6-stage automatic transmission from ZF Friedrichshafen on all four-wheel drive models and an increased engine output of 190 kW (255 bhp). This model has a reversing camera (standard in the Ghia and on request in the TS). This camera was also offered for the first time on an Australian vehicle.

In mid-2006, Ford Australia introduced a turbo version of the engine. The turbo provided 245 kW (329 bhp) and a torque of 480 Nm.

In Australia, the Ford Territory occurs z. B. against the Toyota Kluger , the Subaru B9 Tribeca and the Nissan Murano .

The fastest Ford Territory Turbo was developed by CV Performance ; he made the quarter mile in 11.2 s and reached a top speed of 196 km / h.

FPV F6X

From January 2008 to June 2009, FPV's Territory was also available as the F6X . It has the turbo engine of the FPV F6 with 270 kW and accelerates 0–100 km / h in 5.9 s. The F6X is the FPV version of the Ford Territory Turbo Ghia; its full name is F6 X 270 .
