Vehicle characteristics

Ford Iosis-MAX, rear view

The vehicle is a four-seater compact van based on the Ford Iosis , which was designed by chief designer Martin Smith in the so-called "Kinetic Design". A ready-to-drive prototype was built in the Ford development center in Cologne within eight months . The panorama roof, a continuous glass surface from the windshield to the tailgate, was particularly striking. Like the Iosis study, the vehicle had no B-pillar. Illuminated door sills also made entry easier. While the front doors open normally, the rear doors move backwards on a parallelogram guide with double links like sliding doors. The four seats made of carbon fiber reinforced plastic were attached to the center console in a cantilevered manner. The instrument cluster consisted of a tachometer with a digital speedometer and displays for tank content and fuel consumption. Controls on the center console, there was not - via touch screens to let radio , air conditioning and navigation system by pressing a button to visualize and control. There was also no indicator lever, the indicators were activated by voice control. The tailgate opened in three different variations: the lower part as a trunk lid, the upper part as a hinged glass pane or all together as a tailgate, the hinge of which also serves as a spoiler lip.

Instead of exterior mirrors, there were cameras on the doors for the rear view. Bluish daytime running lights reminiscent of insects' eyes and 19-inch alloy wheels should give the Iosis-MAX a sporty look. The air inlets in the front closed automatically if the engine did not require cooling. This reduces the air resistance of the car and reduces fuel consumption.

The Iosis-MAX was powered by a 1.6-liter gasoline engine called EcoBoost , which developed 132 kW (180 hp). A new PowerShift dual-clutch transmission with six gears enabled gear changes without interrupting the drive force. Thanks to the start-stop system , direct injection and turbocharging, petrol consumption was just 5.3 liters of super petrol per 100 km, while CO 2 emissions were 126 grams per kilometer. This engine was more than a concept, from spring 2010 it was available in the Ford models Mondeo , S-MAX and Galaxy .
