The Ford Thames Trader was a truck that Ford of Britain produced at the Dagenham plant for the European market (excluding Germany). The trader has also been exported to South Africa , Indonesia and Australia . From 1963 the Trader was also produced by Ebro in Spain as the Ebro C-400, C-500 and C-550. Production at Otosan in Turkey and at the Ford plant in Rhodesia - Egypt also began in 1963 , after production in England ended as the Ford K series .

Thames Trader FC series

In March 1957 Ford England presented the new Thames Trader FC series (FC for Forward Control) as the successor to the Fordson Thames ET and the Fordson E83W . The new trucks were the most versatile that Ford England had built up to that point, as the payload now ranged from two to seven tons. The design was based on the American Ford C-series and clearly stood out from other commercial vehicles of the same time, as short-nosed vehicles were absolutely uncommon at the time. The engines used were 4- or 6-cylinder diesel or gasoline engines . In addition to flatbed trucks , it was also produced as a chassis that was fitted with a wide variety of superstructures by builders, for example as a bus .

MK II and Trader NC

In mid-1962 the Trader FC was revised and renamed MK II introduced. You could now also order a conventional NC (NC for Normal Control) driver's cab and a 17-ton truck tractor. The NC models owned the cab of the German Ford FK series , production of which was discontinued in 1961. In 1965 production in England was stopped, while the model continued to be produced in Turkey and Egypt for the non-European market. The successor model was the Ford D-series , which under the name Ford N-series in 1973, twelve years after the end of production of the Ford FK series, revitalized the truck division at Ford Germany.
