The Ford Edge is an SUV from Ford , which in January 2006 at the North American International Auto Show was presented to the public. Production of the Edge began in October 2006. The second generation has also been sold in Europe since 2016, unlike the first.

The Ford Edge builds on the platform of the previous model generation of the Mazda 6 and shares components with the Lincoln MKX . The Ford Edge and the Lincoln MKX were also the first models to use a new 3.5-liter V6 petrol engine with 197 kW / 269 hp.
The vehicle is equipped with a six-speed automatic transmission and has a consumption of approx. 10 liters of normal gasoline per 100 km, measured according to US standards. The maximum torque of 338 Nm is reached at 4800 rpm. The Edge is optionally equipped with front or all-wheel drive. The vehicles of the first model year were available in the equipment variants SE, SEL and SEL Plus. The top equipment line was later renamed Limited . The Sport variant was added in the 2009 model year .
The Edge (internal designation U387) is manufactured in Oakville, Ontario . The main sales areas are the USA and Canada , and it is also offered in Israel and Brazil . Distribution on the European market was announced in September 2012 in the Go-Further webcast. Comparable vehicles from other manufacturers include the Nissan Murano .
In the films Ein Quantum Trost and Knight Rider (2008), several examples of the Edge type were placed in cooperation with Ford alongside other vehicles of the group ( product placement ).
Facelift
For the 2011 model year, the Ford Edge received a new front section in the summer of 2010, which is based on the design of the Ford Fusion . In addition, the lights at the rear have been redrawn and the interior has been revised; The Ford Edge was the first vehicle that could be optionally equipped with Ford's new "MyFord Touch" infotainment system (optional for SEL, standard for Limited and Sport).
With the facelift, the engines were also revised. The output of the standard 3.5-liter V6 engine has been increased to 210 kW / 286 hp, and a turbocharged 2.0-liter Ecoboost 4-cylinder engine with 240 is now available as an option for Edge SE, SEL and Limited PS available.
The Edge Sport's 3.7-liter V6 engine comes from the Ford Mustang and has an output of 227 kW / 309 hp.
Equipment variants
Even after the facelift, the Ford Edge can be ordered in four equipment lines, SE, SEL, Limited and Sport.
The Edge SE has a fabric interior, tire pressure loss warning, manual air conditioning, CD radio and 17 "aluminum rims.
The SEL variant supplements the SE with an electrically adjustable driver's seat, 18 "aluminum rims, satellite radio receiver , two-zone automatic air conditioning , leather steering wheel and a parking aid in the rear area.
The Limited represents the most luxurious equipment line and in addition to the SEL includes 10-way electrically adjustable leather seats with memory function and seat heating, Sony audio system with 12 speakers, 390 W and HD radio, MyFord Touch with 8 "color touchscreen and extended on-board computer, USB Connection, reversing camera and 18 "aluminum rims in chrome look.
Xenon headlights, adaptive cruise control, blind spot warning systems (BLIS) , keyless entry system and a panoramic sliding roof are optionally available .
The sports equipment is based on the SEL and has a more powerful 3.7-liter V6 engine from the Ford Mustang, polished 22 "aluminum rims with black trim, special black and gray electrically adjustable leather seats with heating," MyFord Touch " -Infotainment system, Sony audio system and a rear view camera.

The second generation of the Ford Edge has also been available in Europe since early summer 2016, where it is positioned above the Ford Kuga . In Germany, the Edge is only available with diesel engines. It made its debut in America in 2015, but only gasoline engines are available there .
At the Detroit Motor Show in January 2018, Ford presented a revised version of the Edge and a 247 kW (335 PS) ST variant. While the facelift has also been available in Germany since August 2018, the ST variant is reserved for the North American market.

Registration numbers
In the first sales year 2016, 2,797 Ford Edge were newly registered in the Federal Republic. Two of them have a gasoline engine. In 2017, two of the total of 5,326 Edge delivered had a gasoline engine. In 2018, all 3,259 vehicles were diesel engines. In 2019 there were 4,162 of 4,162 vehicles.
