development
At NAIAS 2002 Ford presented the GT40 Concept Car , which was a new edition of the Le Mans racing car Ford GT40 built from 1964 to 1968 . The concept vehicle was part of the "Living Legends" series, in which Ford revived earlier models such as the Thunderbird or the Mustang . Up to the 100th anniversary of the brand in June 2003, the team developed a series model from the GT40 concept car in 16 months.
Modern technology was used underneath the visually little changed body. In the case of the new model, the suffix "40" was dispensed with, which in the 1964 vehicle was reduced to a vehicle height of 40 inches . The new GT is 43 inches high.
As early as 1995, Ford showed the GT90, a concept vehicle that took up the nomenclature of the original model.
Technical data and performance
The modern Ford GT was not intended for the 24 Hours of Le Mans , but it should be able to compete with the best sports cars in the world. Various motorsport companies have developed several racing variants based on the road car according to different technical regulations, including a GT3 vehicle from Matech Concepts , which was first used in the FIA GT3 European Championship . This in turn is the basis for a racing car presented in 2009, according to the rules of the GT1 group for the FIA GT1 World Championship, which will be announced from 2010 . There is also a GT2 variant from Doran Designs.
The engine of the Ford GT is a 5.4-liter V8 engine with Lysholm supercharger , which has an output of up to 404 kW (550 hp) and a maximum torque of 774 Nm. It accelerates the Ford GT up to a top speed of 330 km / h, making the GT currently the fastest production Ford vehicle. The vehicle only needs 3.9 seconds to sprint to 100 km / h.

Direct comparisons were made with competitors, for example the Ferrari 360 Modena .

This is powered by a 3.5 liter V6 with two turbochargers, which develops 475 kW (647 hp). Unlike its predecessor, the Ford GT has doors that open upwards.
