Progenesis

Progenesis ("pre-development") is a process of heterochrony . With progenesis there is an evolutionary advancement of sexual maturity in the course of the individual development (ontogeny) of an animal, which in contrast to neoteny leads to the termination of any further development.

Progenesis occurs, for example, in some species of annelid worms .
