The Ford Figo is a small car that Ford has been producing in India since 2010 and sells in other emerging countries such as South Africa in addition to its home market . In Mexico the Figo is offered as an Ikon hatchback. In 2011 the Figo was voted Car of the Year in India and South Africa.

Model history

The first generation Figo was presented in New Delhi in September 2009. Sales in the home market started in March 2010, and 25,000 copies had already been sold in July 2010. 15 months later, 100,000 copies were sold in India.

When, in March 2013, while preparing an advertising campaign, blogs were used to disseminate pictures showing tied and gagged women in the trunk of a Ford Figo, this was solved on the Internet, also in view of the social debate in India about the rights of women after the gang rape in Delhi in 2012 , Protests out. Ford then declared its regret and that it was only the drafts of individual employees.

The first generation was built in Chennai .

The Ford Figo is available with either a gasoline or diesel engine, all of which are equipped with a five-speed manual transmission, anti-lock braking system and power steering . The Ford Figo Diesel has the same engine that is also available in the Ford Ikon and the Brazilian Ford Fiesta . It is a "Duratorq" four-cylinder diesel engine with a capacity of 1399 cm³, 51 kW (69 hp) and a maximum torque of 160 Nm at 2000 rpm. It has 8 valves, an overhead camshaft and common rail injection . This engine was also used in the Ford Fiesta, which was offered in Europe until 2008. The Otto engine is a newly developed engine with a displacement of 1196 cm³, which offers 52 kW (71 hp) at 6250 rpm and a maximum torque of 102 Nm at 4000 rpm. It has two overhead camshafts and 16 valves.

The top speed of both versions is 160 km / h.

design

The design differs only slightly from the European Fiesta '02 on which the Figo is based. However, it is not identical to the Brazilian Fiesta, which is also based on the Fiesta '02. This one has a different front similar to that of the Fiesta '09 and a more modern dashboard.

The successor model was introduced in India in 2015 and also provides the basis for the European Ka + . The second generation of the Figo is built in Sanand . It is also being sold again in other emerging countries. In contrast to the Ka +, the Figo is also available in a notchback version. While it is sold as the Ford Figo Sedan in South Africa , it is marketed as the Ford Aspire in India . At 3995 mm, the Aspire is around 259 mm shorter than the Figo Sedan, as vehicles up to four meters in length are taxed less in India.
