The '09 Ford Fiesta is the seventh series of the Ford Fiesta . After the Ford Fiesta '76 , this is only the second model in the series that was also marketed in North America .

Model history

On 14 August 2008 began in Germany Ford factory in Cologne-Niehl , the serial production of the seventh generation of models of the Fiesta (type JA8). It also started in Nanjing, China, at the end of 2008 . The Spanish plant Almussafes near Valencia started production at the beginning of 2009, production started in Rayong (Thailand) and Cuautitlán Izcalli (Mexico) in 2010 , followed by Chennai (India) in 2011.

The Ford Verve design study , which was presented at the 2007 International Motor Show (IAA) , already gave a foretaste of the new model . In March 2008, the production model was presented at the Geneva Motor Show . All Fiesta have electric power steering , anti-lock braking system , internally ventilated disc brakes at the front, an electronic safety and stability program with brake assist , four airbags (two front and two), knee airbags for the driver, electrically adjustable side mirrors with integrated indicators, a two-dimensionally adjustable steering wheel, cabin filters , tachometer, a 40/60 split rear seatback and Central (from trend with radio control). All models can be equipped with additional head-shoulder airbags for an additional charge .

When it was launched on the market in October 2008, there were four gasoline engines with 44 to 88 kW (60 to 120 hp) and one diesel engine with 66 kW (90 hp), all of which meet the Euro 4 standard. The gasoline engines are exclusively Zetec engines of the Sigma family, which Ford marketed as Duratec . The 1.25 liter engine, which was not offered in the previous model in Germany, forms the basic engine. The output of the 1.4-liter engine has been increased by 20% and the variant with 1.6-liter displacement is equipped with two independently variably adjustable camshafts ( Ti-VCT ), depending on the engine output and the year of manufacture , and thus provides up to 1/3 more than the same engine in the 6th series Fiesta. In these engines, the engine block and cylinder head are made of light metal, the two overhead camshafts are driven by a toothed belt and the mixture is prepared by an intake manifold injection . The automated five-speed manual transmission Durashift-EST of the previous model is no longer in the range; a four-speed automatic is only available with the 1.4-liter engine. A diesel engine with 55 kW (75 HP) has also been available since January 2009. Both common rail diesel engines have a turbocharger and a particle filter (DPF). The two 1.25-liter gasoline engines have been compliant with the Euro 5 standard since the beginning of 2010.

In the 2009 Car of the Year poll , the Fiesta came in second and was only beaten by one point by the Opel Insignia A. It was the closest result in the history of this award.

From autumn 2010 the Fiesta was also sold in North America as a five-door hatchback and four-door notchback as the Fiesta Sedan ; the front section of the vehicle was slightly redesigned for this market. It is also only available with the 1.6-liter 88 kW engine; the Fiesta is optionally available with a five-speed manual transmission or a six-speed dual clutch transmission (Powershift). As with the oil crisis in the mid-1970s, the increased oil prices are making small cars more popular there again.

For various markets in Asia, the Fiesta will also be produced in Chennai (India) with a hatchback or notchback from 2011, where it replaced the Ford Ikon .

On May 6, 2011, the one millionth Fiesta of the seventh generation rolled off the assembly line.

Facelift

In September 2012, Ford presented an extensively revised Fiesta at the Mondial de l'Automobile in Paris, which was launched in Europe on January 26, 2013.

In addition to the body and interior, the engine range has also been revised. While the 1.25-liter engines were taken over unchanged, the 1.4-liter engine was now only available in the Fiesta LPG for LPG and super fuel with 68 kW (92 hp), the 1.6-liter titanium VCT was only available with 77 kW (105 PS) and automatic power shift. The petrol engines have been supplemented by the new 1.0-liter EcoBoost engine with 74 kW (100 PS) or 92 kW (125 PS). This engine is also available without turbocharging with 48 kW (65 PS) or 59 kW (80 PS). These two engines consume around one liter of fuel less per 100 km, but have a higher purchase price than the 1.25 liter engines with comparable performance. The new smallest diesel engine was replaced by a 1.5-liter Duratorq with an output of 55 kW (75 hp) and the 1.4-liter Duratorq engine.

Instead of the previous five, there are seven airbags as standard, in addition to the front and side airbags and the knee airbag for the driver, there are head and shoulder airbags at the front and rear. The chassis has also been fitted with new suspension components, and the Fiesta is also available with a range of different driver assistance systems. The interior of the vehicle has also been redesigned. In addition to other controls and displays, the position of the window lifters has been changed, using higher quality materials. There is also the “MyKey” function as standard - the second key can be programmed according to the requirements of the vehicle owner. For example, the maximum speed of the vehicle can be limited or the deactivation of assistance systems such as ESP prevented.

In the USA, Ford launched the modified Fiesta in mid-2013, where it is called the Ford Fiesta in 2014 .

On April 29, 2017 the last Fiesta of the seventh generation was built. On May 16, 2017, Ford started production of the successor Fiesta '18 .

• Ambiente (until 2009 and from 2011, basic model with gasoline engine (44 or 60 kW) or diesel engine 55 kW, wheels 175/65 R 14)
• Trend (like Ambiente  - additional electric windows at the front, radio central locking, height-adjustable driver's seat, electrically heated side mirrors, 195/50 R 15 wheels, extended range of engines with 71 kW petrol engine (also with four-speed automatic) and 66 kW diesel engine)
• The Fiesta ECOnetic as an extension of the Trend equipment and an optimized 1.6-liter Duratorq engine, which delivered 66 kW (90 hp) at market launch, will be available from January 2009. To reduce air resistance, the car is lowered ten millimeters and has a sports chassis with smooth-running tires and a longer axle ratio. The Fiesta ECOnetic with the narrower 175/65 R-14 wheels costs 250 euros more than the otherwise same trend (with 195/50 R-15 wheels). If the gearshift recommendation indicator is observed, a combined consumption of 3.7 liters of diesel fuel per 100 kilometers (corresponds to CO ₂ emissions of 98 grams per kilometer) can be achieved. From February 2010, the engine delivered 70 kW (95 PS) with the same consumption data. In June 2011, Ford announced that it had reduced CO ₂ emissions by a further 3 grams per kilometer by extending the final drive ratio , thus reducing combined consumption to 3.6 liters of diesel fuel per 100 kilometers. In March 2012 the Fiesta ECOnetic was further revised and since then has had a start-stop system , consumption was reduced to 3.3 liters of diesel fuel per 100 kilometers, and CO ₂ emissions were 87 grams per kilometer. The engine output is still 70 kW (95 PS). At the MPG Marathon 2012 , a fuel- saving competition organized by the British Fleet World Group with standard road vehicles on 624 km of public roads in Wales , a Ford Fiesta ECOnetic achieved a consumption of 16.22 liters of diesel fuel, which corresponds to an average consumption of 2.6 liters 100 kilometers, victory.

Ford Fiesta Sport (2009-2011)

• The Fiesta Individual will be available from spring 2013 and is better equipped than Titanium . • The special model Fiesta Sport S was taken into series production as Fiesta S from July 2011 with small changes. In addition to the gasoline engine, the well-known TDCI diesel engine with 1.6 liter displacement is now also available, which has an output of 70 kW (95 hp), but only with a single pipe exhaust. The Fiesta S is now available in seven different colors, the front spoiler lip is always painted in the contrasting color silver. • The Fiesta LPG ( Liquefied Petroleum Gas) for liquid gas operation extends the range with alternative fuel based on the 1.4 liter engine with five-speed gearbox. The vehicle is factory-fitted with an additional tank in the spare wheel well and an engine designed for LPG operation. Consumption with gas is 7.2 l / 100 km and allows a maximum range of 450 km, which roughly corresponds to the range with gasoline. A range of over 1000 km is possible in mixed operation. The consumption in LPG operation corresponds to CO ₂ emissions of 119 g / km, an improvement of more than 10%.
• The Fiesta ST was presented as the ST Concept at the IAA 2011 in Frankfurt . The vehicle is the successor to the Fiesta ST from 2005. With the help of a turbocharger , the 1.6-liter EcoBoost engine has an output of 134 kW (182 hp) and, with a fuel consumption of 5.9 liters of premium gasoline per 100 km, is more economical than its predecessor with 2.0 liter Duratec engine. Compared to the other Fiesta models, the car is lowered by 15 millimeters, equipped with a 6-speed manual transmission, accelerates from 0 to 100 km / h in 6.9 seconds and reaches a top speed of 220 km / h. Outwardly, it differs from the other models with the large, trapezoidal radiator grille, the rear apron with large diffuser insert and a double-pipe exhaust system. The car is available in two different equipment variants, once as the Fiesta ST and once as the Fiesta ST with a leather sports package . Red-painted brake calipers for the standard disc brakes are available on request. Ford presented the five-door variant at the Los Angeles Motor Show. In February 2013 the production of the Fiesta ST started , which is available in five different colors.
• The Fiesta Van will also be offered again from 2011. As with the other model series, it is a three-door model without rear side windows and without a back seat. The load space has a capacity of 1,000 liters with a maximum payload of up to 443 kg. The driver's area is separated from the cargo area by a half-height steel partition with an attached grille. You can choose from the 1.25-liter gasoline engine with 60 kW, the 1.4-liter diesel engine with 51 kW and the 1.6-liter diesel engine with 70 kW. Only in the top version of three possible equipment versions are ESP as well as side and front passenger airbags as standard. Head airbags are not available for the Fiesta Van, a CD radio is standard in all versions. The Fiesta Van is also available as an ECOnetic version . In April 2012 Ford presented the further developed Ford Fiesta Van ECOnetic , the CO ₂ emissions fell from 95 g / km to 87 g / km, the fuel consumption was now 3.7 liters per 100 km. It is equipped with an automatic start-stop system, has a reduced vehicle height, underbody cladding and wind deflectors in front of the wheels to reduce air resistance. The model has tires with lower rolling resistance and a longer gear ratio, as well as a standard gear change indicator and an alternator with SRC (Smart Regenerative Charging), which charges the vehicle battery more when braking and less when accelerating.
• The ST-Line is expanding its line from the middle of 2016. The model is variation trend comparable, but externally (for example, with spoiler lip on the roof, wire wheels, ST-line ornaments) and technical (lowering and sportier suspension) to the Fiesta ST ajar .

Special models

• The Sport S was offered as a sportier edition model from May 2011. The Fiesta Sport S was only available with three doors and was available in the colors Indianapolis blue metallic or frost white and was recognizable by sport stripes in the other color. • From January 2012 Ford will be offering the Champions Edition of the Fiesta . These are vehicles with the trendy equipment and air conditioning, fog lights, on-board computer, leather steering wheel, extended CD audio system as well as velor carpet floor mats and B-pillar trim with the logo of the UEFA Champions League .
• On the occasion of the 40th anniversary of the Fiesta, Ford presented the ST200 at the Geneva Motor Show 2016. This is based on the Fiesta ST, but has an output of 147 kW (200 hp), 13 kW more. The ST200 is only available in gray and is initially limited to 500 copies for Germany. The vehicle will be produced from June 2016, the first vehicles were delivered at the beginning of July 2016 at prices from € 24,640.

Motorsport

The Fiesta was used by Ford in the World Rally Championship from 2011 and replaced the Ford Focus . In line with the new regulations, the previous 2.0-liter turbo engine has been replaced by a 1.6-liter turbo engine with direct injection.

Like the previous model , this Fiesta was used in rallycross. A Fiesta with over 600 kW was prepared for the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb , which was driven by the former Ford works driver and rally world champion Marcus Grönholm .
