The Customline was presented in February 1952 as one of the successors to the Ford Custom Deluxe . It was equipped either with a new, overhead six-cylinder in-line engine with 3,523 cm³, which delivered 101 bhp (75 kW) at 3500 rpm, or with the V8 engine with 3,916 cm³ displacement known from its predecessor, which reached 110 bhp (81 kW) ) at 3,800 rpm. was strengthened.
The Customline was available as a 2- or 4-door sedan, as a 2-door coupé and as a 5-door station wagon (Country Sedan), the latter only with a V8 engine.
In the following year, the cars were built without major changes. In 1954 there were only cosmetic changes to the bodywork; there was also a 3-door station wagon, and the 5-door station wagon was also available with a six-cylinder engine. This six-cylinder engine was new and developed an output of 115 bhp (85 kW) at 3,900 rpm from a displacement of 3,654 cm³. In order to maintain the appropriate distance, the output of the V8 also increased to 130 bhp (96 kW) at 4,200 rpm.
A total of 1,838,499 1st series custom lines were built in three years.

In October 1954 the second series of the Customline was presented. It had been completely redesigned and the flatter, wider and longer vehicles had small tail fins . The six-cylinder engine had received a boost in power and now delivered 120 bhp (88 kW) at 4,000 rpm. The V8 engine had been drilled out to 4,457 cm³ and now developed 162 bhp (119 kW) at 4,400 rpm. As an option there was a “Powerpack”, which consisted of a four-carburetor system and for 182 bhp (134 kW) at 4,400 rpm. cared.
The second series of the Customline was only available as a 2- or 4-door sedan in 1955. In 1956 there were again only minor changes. In addition to the two body styles from the previous year, there was also a 2-door hardtop sedan (Victoria). The six-cylinder engine developed 137 bhp (101 kW) at 4,200 rpm. and the V8 achieved 173 bhp (127 kW) at 4,400 rpm. The high-performance variant was no longer available, but the cars with automatic transmission (Ford-O-Matic) performed 3 bhp more.
840,645 pieces were produced from the second series of the Customline. In the following year, the Custom 300 model replaced the Customline.
