The Ford Transit Custom is a van from the automaker Ford that has been available since the second half of 2012. It is available as a minibus under the name Ford Tourneo Custom .
It is the successor to the light and short models of the sixth generation of the Ford Transit with front-wheel drive. In 2013 the Transit Custom was voted Van of the Year . The car is available with wheelbases from 2933 mm to 3300 mm. The vehicle length varies from 4972 mm to 5340 mm; the width is 1986 mm. Vehicle heights from 1972 mm to 2342 mm are available. The controversial refrigerant 2,3,3,3-tetrafluoropropene or HFO-1234yf is used in the air conditioning systems of the Transit Custom and Tourneo Custom models .
In 2018 there was a visual facelift in which the interior and front were completely redeveloped. Since then, xenon headlights have also been available for an additional charge.
Model history
Ford's goal is to use the model to gain more market share over competitors such as the VW T5 . For this purpose, the design and driving comfort of the vehicle have been brought into line with a passenger car , which means that the utility takes a back seat. The Ford Transit of the 7th generation is offered especially as a commercial vehicle , which differs both technically and in design. The Transit Custom basically has front-wheel drive with a standard 6-speed manual transmission . The engine used is a 2.2 liter diesel engine with common rail injection with 74 kW (100 PS), 92 kW (125 PS) or 114 kW (155 PS). All models have a start-stop system as standard . With an exterior height of less than two meters, the vehicle can also drive into most public parking garages. The interior of the Transit Custom models was based on the Ford car models. The dashboard is similar to that of the Ford C-MAX . Among other things, there is an entertainment and communication system for the Transit Custom, called Sync, with an integrated emergency assistant that automatically notifies rescue workers in the event of an accident and transmits the vehicle's position. In addition to ESP , driver and front passenger airbags, there are also side and head airbags. A special Ford gimmick is a heated windscreen as well as protection against misfueling. In addition to a reversing camera, a lane assistant and a drowsiness warning system are also included as technical innovations in this vehicle class. The Transit / Tourneo Custom has been built in the Turkish plant in Kocaeli since summer 2012 .
The Transit Custom received a facelift in 2018. The interior has been completely redesigned and the front has been adapted to the current Ford design guidelines. The sides and stern have not been changed.
From the end of 2019, the vehicle will also be offered as a plug-in hybrid version. Ford states the electric range is up to 50 km.
Ford Transit Custom
The Transit Custom is available as a panel van , flatbed truck with a single or double cab . It was first presented at the Birmingham Commercial Vehicle Show in April 2012.
The panel van is also the smallest version with three Euro pallets can be loaded. A flexible partition behind the seats enables long items to be loaded under the seats. The roof rack that can be retracted into the roof is a novelty.
The standard model of the van is equipped with a steel partition. It is available with one or two sliding doors and a tailgate, alternatively two rear doors hinged on the side. The panel van is also optionally available with a double cabin.
The Transit Custom has a payload of 600 kg to 1400 kg and a loading volume of 5.95 m³ to 6.83 m³.
A model with a high roof will also be available from autumn 2013, which increases the loading volume to up to 8.3 m³.
There was an optical facelift in spring 2018.
Ford Transit Custom Kombi / Bus
The Transit Custom Kombi is available for the transport of five or six passengers plus cargo. The Transit Custom Bus can accommodate eight or nine passengers. As with the Tourneo Custom, the seats can be folded down or removed. In contrast to the Tourneo, the standard equipment is less, since these models are an offer specifically for commercial customers.
Westfalia Nugget
In cooperation with Westfalia Mobil , a mobile home version of the Transit Custom is also offered. Westfalia motorhomes based on the Ford Transit of the 4th, 5th and 6th generation were already offered under the name "Nugget" .
Ford Tourneo Custom
Under the name Tourneo Custom, the vehicle is available as a minibus with up to eight or nine seats, with 30 different seat configurations possible. The Tourneo Custom was presented to the public for the first time at the Geneva Motor Show in March 2012. The seats in the second and third rows can be folded up or individually removed. A sliding side door and running boards are part of the standard scope of the Tourneo Custom. Options include leather upholstery, sun blinds for the side windows and an air conditioning system with a multi-zone design for the second and third row of seats.
