Flowplayer is a streaming client written in JavaScript and Adobe Flash that can be embedded in websites . The Flowplayer can play videos in Flash Video (FLV) format . The MP4 , H.264 , JPG , PNG and MP3 formats can also be used with it .

The software is developed under the GPL license. A commercial license can be purchased for commercial use without the Flowplayer logo. The software has been used by Flowplayer Oy. developed from Finland. Some features are the configurability of the look and feel of the player using JavaScript , expandability with plug-ins and support for various streaming servers . The Flowplayer - programming interface is based on JavaScript 1.5 and by the following Web browsers supported: Firefox 2+, Internet Explorer 6.0+, Apple Safari 2.0+ and Opera 9.0+.

In 2012, the Flowplayer was ranked 8th in the CHIP-Online- Download-Charts of the top 100 server tools of the week, at CNET it reached rank 17 of the website tools. Other open source Flash players include Gnash , Lightspark and Swfdec .
