The Suzuki Every is a van in the Japanese kei car class that Suzuki has been producing since 1982. Originally it was only the minivan version of the Suzuki Carry , but has been manufactured for commercial use as its panel van and minibus version since the fourth generation in 1999 . The specially equipped minivan variant has been called Suzuki Every Wagon since 1999 .

The Every was marketed in Europe as the Suzuki Carry between 1999 and 2005. In Germany the import was stopped in 2002.

Model history

The Suzuki Carry, which has been built since 1961, was originally a pick-up from the first Suzuki passenger car, the Suzuki Suzulight, and, like the latter, was part of the Kei-Car class. This was also delivered with a wooden or tarpaulin structure for transporting goods. In 1964, the so-called van model - a station wagon with removable rear seats for transporting goods - was added to the pick-up . A year later, a new Carry followed, which was now designed independently of the Suzulight in a front-handlebar design. It was also available with wooden, tarpaulin and now steel structures. There was also a special tarpaulin construction version for a pick-up with 2 additional seats with viewing windows on the side of the loading area. After the van was discontinued in 1966, a new combination variant of the pick-up with 4 seats, tailgate and side door followed in 1968. In 1969 a new generation of carry followed, the design of which came from Giugiaro and was now also available as a closed minibus and panel van. Two generations later, in 1979, Suzuki first produced a more extensive and finely equipped minivan version of the Carry minibus. With the revision of this generation at the end of 1982, the minivan was spun off from the Carry series and, in addition to the name Every, also differed in the high roof and engine. The name Every comes from the English and means everyone or and everywhere . Suzuki describes the model as a one-box car with a high payload combined with maneuverability and lightness.

In most export markets, such as Europe , the Every remained just the minivan model of the Carry. After a new generation of the Carry and Every arrived on the home market in 1991, it was almost exclusively marketed on the home market. In Europe, the generation started in 1985 remained on the market and was first produced by Vauxhall Motors and later imported from India, where the Suzuki subsidiary Maruti still produces the model as the Maruti Omni today. In 1989 sister models of the Carry / Every series, the Autozam Scrum and the Mazda Scrum , were launched on the domestic market . Both had the same name in all versions.

In 1999, Suzuki broke new ground again. Since then, the Carry has only been the pick-up model and the Every is now produced as a panel van and minibus variant. The minivan variant has since been called Every Wagon. In addition, the front design has also differed more significantly from the carry than before. In 2000, a 7-seater variant also followed as the Suzuki Every Landy . The Every was marketed as the Suzuki Carry in Europe between 1999 and 2005 (in Germany 1999–2002). The pick-up variant, which was previously rarely ordered, was not even offered. The high yen exchange rate and the falling demand for this vehicle class prompted Suzuki, like Daihatsu with the Daihatsu Hijet in the 1990s and Subaru with the Subaru Libero in the early 2000s, with the model change of the Every 2005 to export to Europe, as well elsewhere. After Daihatsu and Subaru have already been producing their models together with the Toyota Pyxis through their parent company Toyota , the number of independently manufactured kei-car class vans / minivans will continue to decrease in the future. Mitsubishi will soon be discontinuing its Mitsubishi minicab, which has never been offered in Europe . The Nissan Clipper NV / NT 100, which is also not available in Europe and which replaced Nissan 's own Nissan Clipper model, is already based on this . Both brands have already signed contracts with Suzuki to build Carry / Every models under their brand names. The Honda Acty , which was never offered in Europe, remains the only independent model .

The dimensions of the 1st generation corresponded to the Carry minibus. In contrast to this, it had an optional high roof and only offered 4 seats. However, these could be turned into reclining seats. In addition, there were fold-away tables, a large central sunroof, electric windows and many other equipment details, depending on the version, as standard or optional that were not available in the Carry series. The interior, including the dashboard, differed from the Carry models in terms of its higher-quality look and feel. Right from the start, the Every was optionally available with all-wheel drive and, in addition to the 4-speed manual transmission, 5-speed manual transmission for the 4WD and exclusively for the Every, a 3-speed automatic transmission . Unlike the Carry minibus models, the Every had the new 543 cc four-stroke engine F5A, as the two-stroke engine would not have been approved due to the stricter emissions standards for cars.

In 1985 the 2nd generation appeared, which differed from the predecessor mainly in a new front, parallel to the revised Carry Generation. The high roof was now a little flatter. The Every now differed from the Carry with different rim covers and the bumpers and exterior mirrors were now painted in the same color as the car. Technically everything stayed the same for the time being. The curb weight is given as 670–880 kg.

  • From 1986 special color combinations Joy or Joy Pop were available.
  • In 1988 there was a slight facelift with a revised dashboard.
  • In May 1989 a revised version started together with the sister models Autozam and Mazda Scrum . The front was redesigned with now rectangular headlights and the engine was also offered with a turbocharger , which improved driving performance.
  • Due to new regulations in the Kei-Car class, the F6A 657 cm³ replaced the previous engine in March 1990. From November this was also available in a turbo version.

The new generation, launched in September 1991, had a larger wheelbase and a lower body. This was an evolution of the 1989 model built with a lower roof, whereby the c W value was reduced and fuel consumption decreased. Furthermore, the hinges of the sliding doors were positioned further down and the engine was now mounted just in front of the rear axle instead of in the rear. For the first time, the Every had coil springs instead of a rear leaf spring as in the Carry, but still had leaf springs as a 4WD. The curb weight of the wagons is given as 770–950 kg.

  • From January 1993 there were improved brakes and the Joy Pop models were equipped with a car radio as standard. From November the air conditioning system became CFC-free and the interior fittings and seats were given special flame-retardant material.
  • A small facelift took place in May 1995, with the main focus being on improved driving comfort. Among other things, the suspension was changed to improve running smoothness and reduce vibrations. The power of the turbo model was now 64 hp. A third brake light was also introduced.
  • From April 1997 the Every was built with an improved engine and 4WD. In addition, the safety equipment was improved and the seat cushions were now revised and offered more lateral support. Suzuki served the Japanese retro wave with the Every C (Classic).
  • In February 1998, a keyless entry function became available as an option, in the highest equipment variant, Caribian, as standard equipment.

The minivan model has now become the Every Wagon. The engine was adapted to the stricter exhaust gas regulations and now made 60 hp in the turbo version. The engines have now been installed under the driver's seat. The minibus / panel van versions offered 200-350 kg payload . The curb weight is given as 780–1000 kg.

  • From June 1999 there was the Joy Pop version with electric window regulators, keyless entry and a car radio as standard. Double airbag and anti-lock braking system were standard equipment in all versions. The Every Wagon also had air conditioning, aluminum wheels, aerodynamic parts and an electric sunroof. At the same time, the 7-seater minivan Suzuki Every Landy (first as Every +), based on the Every minibus variant, was introduced .
  • Technical improvements were made in November 1999. The maximum output of the turbo engine was now 64 hp again, and the 3-speed automatic transmission in the Every Wagon was replaced by a 4-speed one. However, the turbo in this variant only had 60 hp. At the same time, the engine torque has been improved, especially in the lower and middle range.
  • From December there was a CNG variant for the Every models.
  • Further technical improvements were made in May 2000, with the boost pressure of the turbo engine now being equipped with an electronic control unit and knock sensor.
  • For Suzuki's 80th birthday, in June 2000, there was a special model of the Every Wagon Joy Pop Turbo with a sound system and seat covers specially designed for the anniversary.
  • In September 2001 the K6A all-aluminum DOHC engine with also 657 cm³ replaced the F6A with an output of 49 hp. With the exception of the 3-speed automatic transmission in the Every versions, the AT gear lever moved into the dashboard instead of on the vehicle floor. A turbo version was also available again from October.
  • In September 2003, Every received a national 3-star award for low emissions in commercial vehicles.

Ford PRZ 1999-2005
