The Ford S-MAX is a passenger car model from the automobile manufacturer Ford . It is a sports van that has been available in Germany since May 2006. It fills the gap between the Ford C-MAX and the simultaneously renewed Ford Galaxy and combines the spaciousness of a van with the sportiness of a sedan .
The S-MAX was produced together with the Ford models Galaxy and the Mondeo , which is based on the same platform, in Genk, Belgium, until the end of 2014 . The second generation was introduced in late summer 2015.

General
Together with the Ford Galaxy, the S-MAX was the first Ford vehicle to feature the new so-called “Ford kinetic design”, which was presented at the IAA 2005 with the Ford Iosis study and which subsequently distinguished all new Ford models .
technology
The S-MAX has up to seven seats, whereby the second and the optional third row of seats can be completely lowered into the vehicle floor.
The new Durashift 6tronic automatic transmission has been available for the two-liter diesel with 96 kW (130 PS) since summer 2007 . It was also for the S-MAX an adaptive cruise control (ACC) and an interactive landing gear (electronic damper control) offered.
Engines
At market launch, there were two petrol engines with 107 kW or 162 kW and two common rail - diesel engines with standard particulate filter and an output of 96 kW and 103 kW. Two new engine variants were available from autumn 2007: The 2.3-liter Duratec gasoline engine could only be ordered with an automatic system and had an output of 118 kW. There was also the 2.2-liter diesel engine with 128 kW and 6-speed manual transmission. Since spring 2008, the 2-liter automatic diesel engine has also received 103 kW and the basic gasoline engine has been offered as a FlexiFuelVehicle (FFV), which enables operation with bioethanol. The power remained at 107 kW.
In the spring of 2010, the engine range was completely revised and now fully complies with the Euro 5 emissions standard . The S-MAX, together with the Galaxy, was the first Ford model to feature the new 2.0-liter EcoBoost gasoline engine with turbocharging; the two Duratec engines with 2.3 and 2.5 liter displacement were replaced by the Program taken. There were also changes in the diesel engines: the 1.6-liter TDCi, which is significantly more economical with the same output, replaced the smallest 2.0-liter TDCi with 85 kW, and the 2.2-liter TDCi had an output of 129 kW increased to 147 kW.

Facelift
In May 2010 the S-MAX received a facelift. Outside there were only minor visual changes, so the vehicle received a slightly modified front section and tailgate, as well as more chrome trim. Modern LED technology was now used in the form of (optional) daytime running lights at the front and newly designed rear lights. Thicker pane glass served to reduce noise in the interior. Other driver assistance systems such as a lane change assistant and a reversing camera were now optionally available. There was also a speed limit function for the cruise control.
The previous automatic converter was largely taken out of the range and replaced by the so-called PowerShift automatic transmission with dual clutch technology. An exception was the diesel engine with 147 kW, which was still supplied with the “DuraShift” automatic converter.

General
The second generation of the S-MAX was launched in September 2015. Together with the third generation of the Ford Galaxy, it is based on the same platform as the Ford Mondeo , which was renewed in August 2014 . In October 2019 Ford presented a revised version of the S-MAX.
The drive range consists of two EcoBoost petrol engines with 1.5 or 2.0 liters displacement and a two-liter turbo diesel engine in four different power levels, the most powerful of which has a biturbo . All engines meet the Euro 6 emissions standard . Two performance levels of the diesel engine are also available in conjunction with all-wheel drive.
