Ford Econovan II

The Ford Econovan is a built 1983-2005 vans from manufacturer Ford . It was largely identical to the Mazda Bongo sold in Europe as the Mazda E-Series .

Ford acquired its first shares in the Japanese manufacturer Mazda as early as 1979 , and as a result the two companies worked closely together. In the light commercial vehicle segment , Ford was traditionally represented in Europe with the short-nosed Transit model . This, however, was already visually above the widespread small transporters of the size of the VW bus , which in the 1980s was already heavily occupied by Japanese models. In order to close this gap in the company's range of products, the Ford Econovan appeared in 1985, which was largely identical to the van sold in Europe as the Mazda E-Series. The model, in terms of payload almost identical to that of the smallest transit, was designed as a compact front control vehicle and available as a panel van / station wagon as well as a minibus . The vehicle was built at Mazda and was also equipped with the technology of this company, there was either a gasoline or a diesel engine . In 1993 the model ran out without a direct successor in Europe. The Econovan was built for other markets until 2005.

The Econovan was not widely used, at least in Germany, and has now almost completely disappeared from the streets.
