Ford Fairlane
Ford Fairlane is the name of car models built by Ford Motor Company from 1954 to 2007 . The name is derived from the estate of Ford founder Henry Ford , Fair Lane in Dearborne , near Detroit in Michigan . This in turn comes from the origins of the Ford family in a region near Cork in Ireland .
Full size
From 1954 to 1961 a full-size car was sold under this name . This replaced the previous model, Ford Crestline, as the top model from Ford. In 1959, the Ford Galaxie was introduced as a further equipment line above this , by which it was then completely replaced in 1962.
Middle class
With the 1960 model year, US manufacturers began to build much smaller cars for the first time; at Ford it was the Ford Falcon . There was now a gap between these and the normal models, for the filling of which names of the larger models were reused for various brands - for example the name Fairlane at Ford . In 1972 the Fairlane was finally replaced by the Ford Torino ; a designation that a trim level of the Fairlane had previously carried.
Australia
From 1959 to 1966 the Fairlane was exported from the USA to Australia; from this year it will be produced there. With the discontinuation of the US model in 1971, however, the Torino was not introduced, but a separate Fairlane developed as an extended Falcon. This concept was retained until 2007 when Ford completely discontinued the series in Australia.
SUV study
In 2005, the name Fairlane appeared again in the USA. This time for the study of a large SUV. This model then went into series production under the completely new name of Ford Flex .
