With Ford LTD II the successor was in the model years 1977 to 1979 Ford Torino designated. For the 1983 model year, a variant of the mid-range Ford Fairmont model appeared under the name Ford LTD ; from this point in time the previous large LTD was officially called LTD Crown Victoria .

In Australia, Ford produced its own LTD from 1973 to 2007 based on the local Ford Falcon as the top model and competitor of the Holden Statesman .

In Brazil, from 1968 to 1983, Ford offered an LTD based on the 1966 Ford Galaxie .

A LTD appeared for the 1979 model year, which had also become smaller two years after the smaller competitor Chevrolet Caprice was introduced. In addition to the basic version, you could choose the upscale equipment variant LTD Landau , called LTD Crown Landau from 1980 . From 1980 a basic version called LTD S was added. From 1983 onwards , the car was renamed LTD Crown Victoria until 1991, when the name LTD was dropped from the direct successor Ford Crown Victoria .

At the end of the 1970s and until at least 1980, this series was sold briefly by Ford-Werke AG Cologne through interested dealers in the Federal Republic of Germany. For the 1981 model year, for example, the four- and five-door variants with the 4942 cm 3 engine with 101 kW (137 PS; 135 hp) at 3600 rpm were offered and a top speed of 167 km / h was promised. The luxury of a split front bench seat and, in the case of the station wagon, a cargo space of up to 2534 liters, which not even the minivan Ford Galaxy 2020 with its 2340 liters can achieve, were highlighted .

This LTD was available as a four-door sedan and a five-door station wagon, powered by a 2.3-liter four-cylinder, a 3.3- or 3.8-liter V6 or, only in model year 1985, a five-liter V8.

Police versions

Like the Chevrolet Caprice and the large Dodge and Plymouth models, the Ford LTD was also available with a "Heavy Duty Police" package during its production time, which in addition to a reinforced chassis also had numerous equipment features adapted to the purpose and often a more powerful engine included; the car is equipped in this way to be seen in numerous contemporary films.

The Brazilian LTD

Ford Landau, 1976-1983

Ford Brazil introduced the 4.5-liter V8 Galaxie 500 in February 1967 , based on the 1966 US Galaxie, followed by a more elaborately equipped LTD in late 1968. It was powered by a 4.8 liter, 142 kW (193 hp) V8 engine from the Brazilian Ford truck range.

In 1970, a top model called the LTD Landau (later simply called Ford Landau) appeared above the LTD. In 1976 a facelift took place , which gave all three models horizontally next to each other instead of the previously vertically arranged double headlights. At the same time, the Landau received the Ford 302 engine supplied from Canada with a displacement of 4.9 liters and an output of 149 kW (202 hp). The cars had front disc brakes (from 1976), a manual three-speed gearbox or a three-speed automatic, reached a top speed of around 160 km / h, accelerated to 100 km / h in 13 to 15 seconds and consumed 19 to 29 liters of fuel per 100 kilometers.

By the time production was discontinued in April 1983, Galaxie 500, LTD and Landau had produced a total of 77,850 units.
