Ford Transcontinental (H-Series)

The Ford Transcontinental ( Ford H-Series ) is a heavy long- haul truck from the manufacturer Ford designed in Great Britain for the European market and offered here between 1975 and 1984 for a gross vehicle weight of up to 38 tons.

It was produced in the plant in Amsterdam planned by Ford for an annual output of 7,000 units and then from 1982 to 1984 at Sandbach ( Great Britain ) in a total number of 8,735 units. It was assembled almost exclusively from parts from suppliers: So it was with the driver's cab of the Berliet TR , a robust but easy-to-swallow in-line six-cylinder turbodiesel engine from Cummins with a displacement of 14 liters and up to 352 DIN PS, with 9 or Fuller 13-speed transmissions and Rockwell axles .

However , he never had a real chance against the established competition from Mercedes-Benz or MAN , especially since he used a relatively large amount and sales and the establishment of a workshop network were carried out half-heartedly. As a result, after the smaller Ford Cargo was phased out in the early 1990s , Ford Europe withdrew from the heavy truck business.
