The Ford Consul Classic or Ford Consul 315 (the export version) was a mid- size car manufactured by Ford England from 1961 to 1963. The engine code was 109E or 116E.
Model description
Mechanically, the Consul Classic corresponded to the popular Anglia 105E , but it was equipped with slightly larger Kent engines with 1340 cm³ and 1498 cm³. Like the Anglia, the Consul Classic had a rear window inclined towards the direction of travel. The vehicle dimensions differed significantly, however, the wheelbase alone was 21.5 cm larger than that of the Anglia. The vehicles had disc brakes at the front and a fully synchronized four-speed gearbox (in the 1.5-liter version). The front wheels were independently suspended on MacPherson struts, while the driven rear rigid axle was guided on semi-elliptical springs.
The hardtop coupe Consul Capri (335) (1961-64) was based on the Consul Classic (315 ).
In 1963 the Consul Classic was replaced by the Ford Corsair , a total of 111,225 units were built.
The Ford dealer “Hughes Limited” in Nairobi , Kenya converted 17 of them into station wagons. One of these vehicles was introduced to the UK and still exists in the south east of England to this day.
