The car model Ford Eifel was the successor to the Ford Cologne and the predecessor of the Ford Taunus between 1935 and 1940 in Cologne-Niehl by the German Ford Motor Company AG (from 1939: Ford-Werke AG ) and also in Hungary between 1937 and 1939 and Denmark .
description
It was a car model with a three-speed gearbox and a four-cylinder side valve engine . A 63.5 mm bore and 92.5 mm stroke resulted in a displacement of 1172 cm³ . For the vehicle tax, 1157 cm³ were calculated. The engine developed 34 hp / 25 kW (at 4250 rpm).
The Ford Eifel was produced in different body shapes (e.g. as a sedan with two doors, as a convertible with two or four seats, as a roadster and as a van).
The name is derived from the part of a German low mountain range, the Eifel .
Ford Germany built cars in Cologne since 1931, and from 1933 also the small models specially developed for Europe. The Ford Eifel became the best-selling model in the German Empire . The sales figures rose again when different body shapes from 1937 onwards from other German companies such as Karmann ( Osnabrück ), Stoewer ( Stettin ), Hebmüller ( Barmen ), Drauz ( Heilbronn ), Ambi-Budd (Berlin), Gläser ( Dresden ), Hornig & Co ( Meerane ) or Ihle ( Bruchsal ) were produced.
The vehicles had a wheelbase of 2286 mm and a track width of 1143 mm . The sedan and convertible sedan were 4000 mm long, 1450 mm wide, 1600 mm high and weighed 820 kg. The cabriolet was a bit narrower at 1420 mm, flatter at 1420 mm and weighed 835 kg. The roadster has a length of 3850 mm, width of 1430 mm, height of 1465 mm and an empty weight of 725 kg .
A total of 61,495 Ford Eifel were built, more than half of all Ford production in Cologne since 1933. Today there are around 237 Ford Eifel around the world, of which around 10% are not roadworthy or are currently being restored.
The almost identical Ford Model C Junior was built in Great Britain and Spain between 1934 and 1937 .
