The Ford Fiesta '18 is the eighth generation of the Fiesta . The vehicle was officially presented on November 29, 2016 at a Go Further event at the Cologne-Niehl plant . Production started on May 16, 2017, and the official market launch took place on July 8, 2017.
Model history
At around 4.04 meters, the new model is seven centimeters longer than its predecessor, and it is also 1.2 cm wider. The external appearance has changed little compared to the previous model: the front of the vehicle, headlights, bonnet, side line and the roof appear the same at first glance, the most striking change are the rear lights, which are no longer placed next to the rear window, but clearly below it. The safety of the Fiesta has been further developed: seat belt tensioners and belt force limiters at the rear are standard; Furthermore, the bonnet and windshield wipers give way in the event of a collision with a pedestrian, the headlights are pressed into the body in the event of an impact.
Only three-cylinder petrol engines are available for the model launch, the Fiesta ST is also getting a new 1.5-liter three-cylinder EcoBoost with cylinder deactivation . It was presented at the Geneva Motor Show in March 2017 and developed 147 kW (200 PS). With it, the car accelerates to 100 km / h in 6.5 seconds. The diesel engines will continue to be produced with four cylinders. All Fiesta have an automatic start-stop system .
Depending on the equipment, an up to eight-inch touchscreen monitor is installed, which is equipped with the latest SYNC3 infotainment generation . Fifteen different assistance systems are available for the model, some of which are also equipment- dependent , including an emergency braking assistant that now also brakes for pedestrians at night, a parking assistant, a high beam assistant and adaptive cruise control .
Equipment lines
The list is essentially valid for the German market.
- The Fiesta Trend replaces the predecessor's Ambiente equipment variant as the simplest model. The standard equipment includes electric windows at the front, central locking with remote control and electrically adjustable and heated exterior mirrors. The safety features IPS ( i ntelligent p rotection s ystem, Engl. For intelligent protection system ) includes six airbags , ABS , ESP with Hill Start Assist , Lane Assistant and lane keeping assistant.
- The Fiesta Cool & Connect has the equipment of the Trend , expanded with standard extras such as air conditioning , the communication and entertainment system SYNC3 with AppLink, Bluetooth and a 6.5-inch touchscreen , electrically folding exterior mirrors with surrounding lighting, fog lights with static cornering lights and a parking aid back.
- The Fiesta Titanium was the most extensively equipped version of the Fiesta when it was launched in July 2017. In addition to the standard equipment of the Fiesta Trend , the Titanium offers light alloy wheels, sports seats with premium fabric and lumbar support on the driver's side, daytime running lights with light-emitting diodes (LED) and LED taillights, a three-spoke leather steering wheel and a leather-covered handbrake handle, a manually controlled air conditioning system, the communication and entertainment system SYNC3 with AppLink, Bluetooth and a 6.5-inch touchscreen and fog lights with static cornering lights. On the outside, the Titanium differs - as in the previous model - with chrome trim strips under the side windows and on the radiator grille.
- The Fiesta Vignale appeared in autumn 2017 and is the top model of this series with its luxurious equipment. The Vignale is therefore exclusively equipped with satined body elements and high-quality interior components. The standard scope of delivery includes 17-inch alloy wheels in a special design, LED daytime running lights and LED taillights, chrome trim strips under the side windows, on the doors, on the rear diffuser and on the front bumper, and leather fabric seats in Black Ruby (black-red ), a padded dashboard with decorative stitching , automatic air conditioning and the SYNC3 entertainment system with an 8-inch screen.
- The ST-Line became available at the same time as the Fiesta Vignale . The ST-Line models have a honeycomb grille on the radiator grille, side skirts , a modified rear bumper, a sporty chassis and 17-inch light alloy wheels, and are based on the ST models from Ford. This line continues in the interior with a dark Headliner, sports seats in the front, aluminum pedal pads, as well as steering wheel, door sill trims and floor mats in the ST-Line design. A manually controlled air conditioning system and the SYNC3 entertainment system complete the standard equipment.
- The Fiesta Active was introduced in spring 2018 and is the first “crossover” model of a Fiesta. It should combine the good driving characteristics of the small car with an SUV- typical, 18 mm larger ground clearance. The standard equipment includes roof rails, a wheel arch trim in black, plastic paneling on the front and rear bumpers and on the sides of the vehicle.
- As with both previous models, the Fiesta ST is the sportiest variant of the Fiesta with the most powerful engine in the series. With this series, the Fiesta ST is also offered with five doors for the first time. Deliveries began in the summer of 2018. The four-cylinder EcoBoost engine of the predecessor with 1.6 liter displacement was replaced by a newly developed three-cylinder EcoBoost with 1.5 liter displacement and cylinder deactivation. This makes the ST the first sports model from Ford with a three-cylinder engine. The engine output is around 15 kW (20 PS) higher than the previous model and is therefore 147 kW (200 PS). The engine has both direct injection and additional intake manifold injection , which results in greater power output and thus higher efficiency at low speeds. The standard equipment includes sports seats from Recaro, a lane assistant , a cruise control system, eight airbags, an emergency assistant, a manually controlled air conditioning system, automatic light , a selective driving mode switch, ST design outside and inside, a sports suspension and light alloy wheels measuring 7.5x17 inches . A flap control , which should have a positive effect on the engine noise of the Fiesta, is also built in. In addition, a mechanical locking differential , a traction control system for the starting process ( launch control ), a gearshift indicator and LED headlights for low and high beam can be ordered at an additional cost. Limited slip differential, launch control, gearshift indicator, LED headlights and flap control are features that are available for the first time in a Ford Fiesta with this model.
