successor Ferrari F430

The Ferrari 360 Modena appeared in spring 1999 as the successor to the Ferrari F355 and was built until the Ferrari F430 appeared in spring 2005. The 360 has only 14 kW (19 hp) more than its predecessor, but also weighs 20 kg more than the F355, so the performance of the two generations of sports cars is correspondingly similar.

technology

Like the F355, the 360 is powered by a V8 mid-engine with a displacement of 3.6 liters. It develops 294 kW (400 hp) at 8500 revolutions per minute. The engine was designed as a five-valve (3 inlet, 2 outlet valves, the latter with variable timing for better performance at high speeds). The maximum torque is 373 Nm. The weight is 1425 kg (Spider) and 1365 kg (Modena and Challenge Stradale). According to the manufacturer, the 360 Modena accelerates from 0-100 km / h in 4.5 seconds and reaches a top speed of around 296 km / h. The 6-speed transmission of the 360 Modena is available with a traditional manual transmission or the F1 paddle shifters. The 360 Modena can change gears in 150 milliseconds with the F1 gearbox, with fully automated setting and manual operation. There is also a setting for snow and ice, with poor road grip. The gears are selected manually by operating the paddles behind the steering wheel. The right rocker switches up, while the left rocker switches down. The pedalless clutch is activated by the electronic transmission control and only engages when the number of revolutions is correct. The wheels are suspended from double wishbones at the front and rear .

An anti-lock braking system and traction control were standard, but other driving aids were not offered for a surcharge. As an alternative, from spring 2000 the 360 was also available as an open “Spider” (convertible) with a soft top.

In mid-2003, the 360 Challenge Stradale was introduced based on the 360 Challenge racing car , which had a higher engine output (317 kW / 425 PS) and a more tightly tuned chassis. In 2000, the Ferrari employees developed a unique 360 Barchetta as a wedding gift for Luca Cordero di Montezemolo , which, unlike the 360 Spider, does not have a roof.

The Ferrari 360 is the best-selling sports car in Ferrari history. 3 body variants were produced. The Coupé, the Spider and the extremely rare Sunroof Coupé.

The Ferrari F360 Challenge Stradale is the street version of a racing car produced by Ferrari. The Ferrari 360 CS was a direct competitor of the Porsche 996 GT3 RS .

Ferrari started production of the 360 Modena in early 1999 . Two years later, Ferrari introduced the F360 Challenge to provide a car for the Ferrari Challenge racing series. Two years later, a street version of the racing version was built, the 360 Challenge Stradale . This makes it the street version of the racing version, which in turn was based on the street version 360 Modena . The Challenge Stradale has the same engine as the series 360, but with higher quality parts and cleaner ground ducts, which resulted in an increase in output of 21 kW to 317 kW.

technology

The body got a new front apron, different side skirts and a new tailgate with a small spoiler. The rear of the 360 Challenge Stradale is also slightly higher than the front. Also worth mentioning is the change in the exhaust system. It is partly made of titanium and has a throttle valve in two of the four exhaust pipes . These flaps open from a certain speed.

Parts of the body as well as all panels in the interior were made of carbon fiber reinforced plastic . The carpets were removed and two bucket seats installed. Instead of the heavy glass windows, you could order windows made of Plexiglas to save even more weight.
