J Mays

J Mays (born October 15, 1954 , in Pauls Valley ( Oklahoma ), USA ) is an automobile designer who greatly influenced European car design in the 1980s and 1990s.

Life

J Mays (the formation of his first name "J" is similar to that of his grandfather SJ Mays) visited in Oklahoma , the high school ; later he attended the University of Oklahoma . After successfully attending university, he went to the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena , California, which he successfully completed in 1980 with a Bachelor of Science in Transportation Design .

He began his career at Audi as a designer. There he participated in the design of the Audi 80 . In 1983 he was employed by BMW and was involved in the design of the BMW 5 series; however, he returned to Audi in 1984 as a senior designer.

In 1989 the designer moved back to the USA and worked in Simi Valley , California , the then Advanced Design Studio of the Volkswagen Group . There he was in charge of the study of the VW Concept 1 , which was later developed into the production model VW New Beetle . In 1997 he worked as a designer for the American Ford Motor Company . During this time he was responsible for the design of eight different brands of the Ford Motor Company and designed for Ford, Mazda , Mercury , Lincoln , Volvo , Jaguar , Land Rover and Aston Martin .

At the turn of the millennium he received various awards from universities, such as a prize from his former college in Pasadena.
