technology
The Highlander is based on the Toyota Camry . It is offered as a 2WD (with a driven front axle ) or as a 4WD ( all-wheel drive ). All-wheel drive is standard on the hybrid model. A four-speed automatic is used in the four-cylinder, a five-speed automatic in the six-cylinder. With the hybrid drive, an electronically controlled variable power transmission (ECVT) is used due to the drive technology.
Engines
In addition to the well-known 2.4-l four-cylinder engine and the 3.3-l V6 engine, which are also used in other Toyota and Lexus models , the Highlander is also available in a hybrid version (petrol engine 3.3-l V6 with 155 kW / 208 PS; front electric motor 123 kW / 167 PS; rear electric motor 50 kW / 68 PS). With the Toyota Highlander, this engine was used for the first time in an SUV. This drive is used in almost identical form in the Lexus RX 400h.
Data
In the hybrid version, the Highlander reaches an electronically limited top speed of 180 km / h. Acceleration from 0–60 mph (0–96 km / h) is specified as 7.4 s. No values are given for the petrol engine variants. The consumption of the six-cylinder models is 12.4 l in city traffic and 9.4 l on the highway. The hybrid drive should reach 7.4 l (city) or 8.7 l (highway). It should be noted, however, that the American procedures for determining consumption differ from the European ones and generate higher consumption figures through more realistic test scenarios.
Furnishing
The standard safety equipment includes stability control, front and side airbags and side impact protection. Extensive interior fittings (including cruise control, air conditioning), which are typically tailored to the American market, are already included in the basic price, although numerous equipment packages (leather, navigation system, etc.) are still available. A third row of seats turns the five-seater into a seven-seater for an additional charge.
In the US, the Highlander costs between approximately $ 24,800 for the 2.4L 2WD and $ 36,600 for the 4WD Hybrid Limited with a third row of seats.
