In Japan, the Corolla Altis ranked as a cheap alternative to the usual Corolla series.

The following engines were available:

  • Petrol engine: 1.3 (64 kW / 87 PS); 1.5 (81 kW / 110 PS); 1.8 (92 kW / 125 PS)
  • Diesel: 2.2 (? PS)

The models differ considerably in the various markets. While ABS, ESP, radio with CD player and leather interior were already standard in Indonesia, in South America and some other countries it was only optional. There are also differences in the vehicle parts used. The taillights of every manufacture are completely different. There are also significant differences in the headlights. The only constant in the models was the range of engines. The Corolla Altis was also occasionally refreshed with new style elements and new extras.

In Japan, the Altis was replaced by the Corolla Axio when the model was renewed . In the People's Republic of China, the model was still very popular, so that FAW finally started production under the separate model name Corolla EX , which ranks alongside the current Corolla (imported model from Japan).
