The Toyota Picnic or Toyota Ipsum is a Toyota van based on the Toyota Carina .
Market launch in Europe took place in the summer of 1996. At the beginning of sales it was only available with a 2.0-liter petrol engine with 94 kW (128 PS). From the summer of 1997, the model range was supplemented by a 2.2 liter turbodiesel with 66 kW (90 hp).
The Toyota Picnic has either six or seven seats, but only 180 liters of luggage space remain when the seats are installed in the third row. Without the rear seats, the trunk volume is 580 liters. In terms of safety equipment, the Picnic with two airbags and ABS was state-of-the-art when it was launched. The equipment was never supplemented by side airbags. In terms of workmanship and reliability, the Picnic is one of the top in its vehicle segment.
However, there was not a single facelift , which meant that the Picnic could no longer keep up with its more modern competition. Nevertheless, a total of 4,000 vehicles were sold in Germany in 1999.
In the summer of 2001, after almost five years, the Picnic ceased production. It was replaced by the Toyota Avensis Verso .
