The Toyota Belta ( Toyota Yaris Sedan in the US and Toyota Vios in South Asia ) is a small notchback sedan that Toyota has been making since 2006. Basically, it is a revised, sportier version of the Platz and Vitz models . The Belta went on sale in Japan with four-cylinder engines with 1.0 l and 1.3 l and in the USA with a 1.5 l R4. To boost sales and make Belta and Yaris better known to young buyers, Toyota has set up a profile on MySpace.

Vitz and Belta are built on the same platform. The Vitz (Yaris), however, was designed in Toyota's European design studios, while the Belta was designed in Japan - two different designs for two different groups of buyers. The discontinued Vitz and Platz models look similar (only the front, lighting, rear doors, and body panels behind the B-pillars are not the same), while the Vitz and Belta have more subtle similarities. They have similar but not the same dashboards and completely different components. Only the chassis and drive are the same. The bodies are completely different. The Belta is larger than the previous generation of small Toyotas; its interior is larger than that of the Corolla (2001–2008).

The Canadian version of the Yaris Sedan, simply called Yaris, is based on the US Yaris S with performance and all-weather packages, but with standard 14 ”rims. The special equipment packages are called B , C , D and Aero . B offers 15 '' rims with all-weather tires, chrome trim on the trunk lid, front and rear mud flaps, door handles in body color, black window frames and electronic door locks (keyless entry). C offers ABS , air conditioning, power windows and power-adjustable exterior mirrors in body color. D has four side airbags . The aero package adds lockable alloy wheels, a rear spoiler and a body package, but cannot be combined with side airbags and air conditioning. The Canadian model does not have the two-tone paint, the metallic-looking plastic trim on the doors and the new controls for the stereo system that are found on the Japanese and US models. Toyota is trying to standardize the equipment in all markets around the world.

The US Yaris Sedan is similar to the Canadian model, but differs in terms of equipment. The equipment packages for the Canadian hatchback named CE, LE, and RS are called Convenience , Power and All Weather Guard in the USA . The Yaris Sedan is also available as the Yaris S , in which these packages are already integrated as standard. The power package includes aluminum rims. Side airbags are only available at an additional cost.

The Yaris / Belta, model 2007, consumes 6 l / 100 km outside of town and 7 l / 100 km inside town and has a 42 l tank capacity.

Toyota Yaris Sedan (2009)

In 2009 the Yaris Sedan was overhauled and got a new radiator grille, new wheel covers, new upholstery fabrics, leather applications on the steering wheel and gear knob, satellite radio and side airbags and ABS as standard.

Security aspects

The standard safety equipment includes airbags, front seat belt tensioners and headrests on all seats. Side airbags and ABS are only available for an extra charge on the 2007/2008 models. From 2009 the side airbags and the ABS were standard. ESP is not available at all.

According to the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), the Yaris Sedan was rated “good” in frontal crashes, “good” in side impacts for models with side airbags and “poor” in side impacts for models without side airbags.
