The first generation was introduced in September 2003 and despite its small size offers seven seats. Its styling is very modern and similar to that of the Renault Twingo .
The Sienta was derived from the popular Vitz small car . As a family car, the Sienta has a different front and interior.
The car has a 1.5-liter gasoline engine R4 with variable valve timing (VVTi), the 81 kW (110 hp) at 6000 min -1 guaranteed, and a continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT), as well as ABS and EBD . It is also available with all-wheel drive on request .
The interior is very flexible; a wide variety of seat combinations are possible. It is equipped with many shelves. Large sliding doors at the rear allow easy entry for the rear seat passengers.
The low maintenance costs, the low fuel consumption for a van (6.25–8.33 l / 100 km) and the large sliding doors make it very popular in Japan. There are also quite a few specimens in Hong Kong , mostly as gray imports .
In 2006, three years after the series began, the Sienta received a facelift . There were new exterior colors, like apple green, gun gray, and blue metallic. Both sliding doors can now also be operated electrically.
From model year 2007 the car will only be offered on the Japanese market with the Toyota navigation system G-BOOK and telematics .
