The Toyota Deliboy was a pickup truck that Toyota produced from July 1989 to October 1995. It should be a smaller and cheaper addition to the Toyota Quick Delivery .
Model history
The Quick Delivery was specially designed for the requirements of delivery services. For tasks such as delivering parcels in the city, this was not very suitable with its large turning circle and heavy weight. Toyota wanted to offer a more suitable variant and therefore developed the Deliboy. In order to keep development costs low, it was based in many parts on the contemporary Toyota Liteace KM 30 . The petrol engine with 1500 cc and 51 kW (70 PS) and the 2000 cc diesel engine with 54 kW (73 PS) were also used in the LiteAce, as was the 5-speed manual gearbox, which was installed with a steering wheel gearshift, to enable a complete run in the Enable driver's cab . The body had double doors at the rear and front sliding doors. The passenger seat was foldable. There was also a version with a three-seater bench in the cargo area with side windows. Unlike the Quick Delivery, only front-wheel drive was available. From March 1991 there was a 3- speed automatic transmission for the gasoline engine and a 4- speed automatic transmission for the diesel engine , also fitted with a steering wheel gearshift .
The Deliboy was not a great sales success for Toyota; The reasons for this were probably too small doors, the uncomfortable passenger seat and insufficient engine power. Toyota therefore expanded its range in October 1994 with a 2.2-liter turbo diesel with 66 kW (90 hp). Still, sales remained low and Toyota stopped production without a successor in October 1995.
