The Toyota SAI is a mid-range hybrid model from the Japanese car manufacturer Toyota . Since March 2009 it has been produced for the Japanese market only. Toyota accepted pre-orders from October 20, 2009 on its website. The sister model is the Lexus HS 250h , which is currently only sold in Japan and the USA. Its distribution started in July 2009, but ended in the USA in January 2012 due to insufficient demand.

The SAI is a vehicle of the Toyota D segment and thus, according to its own information, an entry-level model in the middle class. The THS-II with a four-cylinder gasoline engine of the type 2AZ-FXE with outputs of 96 or 110 kW (131/150 PS) and a displacement of 2362 cm³ provides the drive of the SAI . The Lexus, on the other hand, is equipped with a 4-cylinder engine working according to the Atkinson cycle , which leads to a system output of 139 kW (187 hp). The aerodynamics have also been improved, so that the c w value is 0.27. This was primarily due to the new design of the front and the newly developed rear spoiler. The LED lights used for the first time lead - like the equally available power mode - to lower energy consumption and therefore fuel.

The SAI is equipped as standard with ABS, EBD, navigation system with button operation and LC screen, airbags for all occupants, side airbags for driver and front passenger, S-VSC, accident stabilizers, electronic windows front and rear, electronically adjustable exterior rearview mirrors, pre-crash safety and a steering wheel height adjustment. The Lexus includes ABS, EBD, stabilizers, ECB, EPS, a brake assistant, navigation system with button operation and LC screen, leather upholstery, radio with CD player, two-zone automatic air conditioning, electronic windows front and rear and, in the US version, the Steering wheel shift as standard.
