The Toyota Avanza (in Indonesia and China also Daihatsu Xenia (Chinese: 大 发 森雅)) is a small van that was designed and built in Indonesia under the direction of Toyota , as well as in Malaysia . The car was presented at the 2003 Gaikindo Motor Show and since then over 100,000 units have been sold per year. The name Avanza is from the Italian borrowed, and probably deriving avanzato meaning progressive is intended, however, means avanzo as another possible derivation obsolete , relic . Waste .

The Avanza is a new model that, together with the more luxurious Innova, replaced the Unser and, in China, the Dario Terios .

In addition to Indonesia and Malaysia, the Avanza is offered in Lebanon, Bangladesh, Thailand, the Philippines, South Africa, Mexico, Peru and China.

In 2004 a special model of the Avanza came out, which was equipped with the more powerful engine with variable valve timing (VVTi) and automatic transmission. Only 200 copies were made.

At the end of the third quarter of 2006, the Avanza was redesigned and got a new grille, new bumpers, new interior and new headlights and taillights. The new model New Avanza S also has a new engine, again a 1.5 l R4, but with two overhead camshafts (DOHC) and variable valve timing (VVTi) - as with the Rush - and also ABS .

In Malaysia the Avanza is available as a 1.5 G model with automatic transmission and as a 1.3 E model with manual or automatic transmission.

In the Philippines, the Avanza has been available in two equipment lines since 2006: As model J with a 1.3 l R4 engine, without electric windows and door locks and only with a manual gearbox, and as model G with a 1.5 l R4 engine, with electric Window regulators and door locks and either with manual 5-speed gearbox or 4-speed automatic. The J has been without a third row of seats since 2008. This model is widely used as a taxi in the Philippines.

In 2008 the Avanza received a new headliner with guide channels for better fresh air supply to the rear of the car and new interior colors.

Daihatsu Xenia

The sister model of the Avanza is called Daihatsu Xenia , the only Daihatsu model for which there are two engines: the 1.3 l R4 with electronic fuel injection from the Avanza (see above) and a 1.0 l R3 engine with one output of 63 bhp (46 kW) at 5600 min −1 and a torque of 92 Nm at 3600 min −1 .

In China, Daihatsu and FAW released the Xenia on June 21, 2007. Production is running at FAW Jilin Auto. This Daihatsu Xenia has the same engines as the Avanza, which are supplied by Astra Daihatsu Motor in Malaysia. The interior was designed by FAW. The collaboration between Daihatsu and FAW ended in 2010.

At the moment the Daihatsu Xenia is only sold in Indonesia.
